Description
In between ducking tornadoes last night and trying to write up a review, I managed to get this rendering. I rebuilt the console and the monitors so the 'hood' was much smaller, built the science station base extras, rebuilt the railing around the bridge to be less flat, started working out the viewscreen, threw together the bridge heating and cooling parts for the ceiling, the main ceiling components, oh, and I played with the lighting again. We obviously need a helm and navigation console and the Phase II version of the Captain's Chair as well as some side greeblies for the stations on either side of the viewscreen and of course a finish for the viewscreen. Oh, and I need to tackle the turbolifts. I'm not satisfied with eh green glowy dome thing either... hnnn. This is the same camera from a few renders ago, set to 35mm instead of 65mm to capture more of the scene in the render.

I like the large, open and airy feel to this. It doesn't look cramped or too small, but not too big either. It's in that "Goldilocks" zone of being just right in size. Thank you for posting this great art. It takes me back to seeing the first Star Trek film when I was young.

Right now I'm working on the Phase II version of this, or rather a hybrid Phase II/TMP version. I'm going to convert the walls over and make the other wall panels for the TMP version, then add the kibble for the WoK and later versions. It's going to be a process.
Thank you for this. The TMP/WoK bridge is one of my favorites with the Final Frontier just behind it as far as the TOS crew goes. It just has this great style that goes with the functionality to it.

I could never decide whether I prefer the Final Frontier bridge or the Undiscovered Country better. the UC had the use of looking more utilitarian and practical in the solid deck plating floor, but was also a bit too dark to me. The Final Frontier had a bit softer, more comfortable color-scheme but had that carpeting on the deck which seemed impractical for a battleship and out-of-place on a spaceship in general. Although the "J.J verse" gives me mixed emotions, the sets are really bad-ass and feel more realistic. That gleaming white, black, blue, silver and some red seem truer to my own idea of a spaceship. The motion picture bridge is a true classic though. I felt sad that after the end of Star Trek 4 (IV) we never got to see more of that set design and had to contend with the Final Frontier redux set. It is my understanding that the only reason they made an all new set was that there was a fire at Paramount Studios in 1987 and the old bridge set was washed out by fire hoses and basically torn apart by the water pressures. Instead of remolding the older designs they opted to do a new rendition all together and since Shatner was directing ST: 5, he asked the set designer for a more cleaned up bridge set like the then current ST:TNG bridge set. When Nicholas Meyer, who directed 'Wrath of Khan' , came in to direct ST: 6, he wanted a more military-like interior for what he referred to as the "space-submarine" look. When they made the set of ENTERPRISE, they kept that 'space-submarine' feel to the ship that was supposed to be far older than the Kirk/Spock era. Grey and silver metallic deck plating was all over the NX-01, inside and outside.

They were able to salvage some parts of the Star Trek IV bridge. They ended up as TNGs first season Battle Bridge and the bridge of the Stargazer. After that though, they kind of vanished, probably destroyed.

Thanks. The bridge is coming right along. Well this version anyway. I'm sure I'll hit a few speedbumps. lol
