I REALLY didn't know what to title this.And thats a chick, not a dude, the chick is Jenny actually.
A little glimpse into the past before Jenny's arrival on ARC. The Wastelands are a cruel and harsh place to live, even more so if you are young, and on your own.
As my character is finding out, It's hard to trust people in this dog-eat-dog world of survival and death. Zombies are not the only thing that want to kill you.

Was working on this on and off between, well everything that I was doing at the time. This is one of those images that I should have stopped working on a looong time ago--but I overworked it to death, and might still overwork it to death. But oh god, look at that wall!
Tried to capture shock/pain/terror, got shot in the shoulder...and then she kinda slid off to the side and down. blahhaha. I kinda feel like this now actually yarr.

I've been wondering if this is the injury that ARC was treating her for when she first came in as part of the Wastelander Project. But then she really wasn't on her own (Milo!). I don't actually expect you to verify or correct my question, I imagine it'll be revealed eventually.

One thing I really appreciate about your comic is how you represent your female characters. They're treated like people. No pinup artwork figures, barely there clothing, or perfect Godiva hair-Β long and loose and hazard-in-waiting. Jenny's hairΒ and clothes are crapΒ right now (in the image) andΒ she's got a very nonsexy expressionΒ on - realism ain't just for the male characters people.Β

I guess because I started this comic completely unaware of how women were usually portrayed in comics I just had this idea of if the female character can be played as a dude and the story doesn't change then that's a good thing to aim for

I always believed that one of the worst things to experience in a zombie apocalypse isn't the zombies its the crazy folk that survive said zombie apocalypse...

Depends whether the zombie is a Berserker or crawler if you ask me. A berserker would likely be worse than the majority of bastardsΒ trying to kill you, since they're quicker and are more interested torturing you as long as possibleΒ than turning you.Β Though there would probably be a few people who suck just as much.

That expression was made by god. No seriously I love it! Most people shy away from strong emotional expression in their characters faces, and that just sucks cause plain and pretty only go so far. This is the kind of picture an observer can see themselves in, even when they're happy, because they know they've felt that before and it kills.
Amazing work. Your realism styled characters and their expressions draw me to your work. Much love!

I love it so very much. But I promised myself to give more constructive criticism these days! The mouth is a little weird (wow are those her wisdom teeth?). You do exaggerated expression really well, but the bottom row of teeth is a little wide for me.

Your shading is perfect for an evening setting.
But you do alot of evening settings so I has only one question: Could you do a couple in the middle of the day, or maybe late at night, or during different seasons!
Like during winter when there's lots of snow...
Whatever suits you, kudos on a great piece.

I'm a huge zombie fan.. My friend and I have been working on a comic ourselves. I really love your work. It touches on so many things that are important to a zombie story. I love this picture because you show exactly that; zombies aren't the only threat to us.
They show the gangsters attacking the mall in Dawn of the Dead (original). It's a favorite idea of mine. Especially when people are faced with physical and mental strain. Nobody can be trusted because everyone's out for themselves; at the same time, if you only look out for yourself and not a group, then you are easy prey.
I love the psychology of Zombie comics. There's just so much. I love it.

Getting shot in the shoulder would suck an awful lot.
You wouldn't believe it but you can die from it!
You bleed down in to your chest and it eventually separates your lungs from your ribcage.
It takes a while but without any kind of intervention one is quite likely to die.
