Mauja is the daughter of Pamoja (together) and the pride's previous leader. After she loses her first litter, she stumbles upon an orphaned cheetah. The cub is so glad to see a friendly face that all she can get out of him is that he “is not alone” now that he’s met her. So she calls him Sigumba, “is not alone”, and hides him from the pride. But one day she is found with her charge, and Mauja is forced to flee her homeland with her “son” in tow. Life is dangerous for a lone female and her cheetah companion, but eventually they meet a female cheetah named Kiwara (plain, savannah). Sigumba convinces her to travel with them, and soon she is smitten with the pride-minded cheetah. With Sigumba’s life falling into place, Mauja starts to wonder if she will ever find a place able to accept a pride of two cheetahs and a lioness, or if she will be alone forever.
