have this a week or two later than my tumblr followers saw it

i tend to post art and stuff faster to my tumblr this is a perfect example yikes

Imma put the drabble that went with it here too just for shits /too lazy to make a separate story post))

Blue approached Red, seeing him sitting alone on a fallen log at the edge of the forest. There had been something… Bad between them. Blue was well aware that Red loved him- and Red knew how much Blue loved him in return. But it was not the same type of love just yet. Blue couldn’t love him that way at the moment- he… He wasn’t right for Red right now. Gods, he wished he could be. He wanted more than anything to be what Red needed, so he could heal the hurt he’d caused him. Anything he could offer now, though, he knew wouldn’t be taken the right way. Red would see it as more. But… Gods, sitting back and doing nothing seemed to be worse. Both of them were hurting.

He slowly sat down on the log beside him, not meeting Red’s gaze. The other Link was looking away from him, shoulders sloped and gaze downcast. Blue wanted to say something- ‘are you okay?’ ‘Can I help somehow?’ ‘I’m sorry.’- but nothing seemed to sum up what he wanted to say. He let out a quiet sigh, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees as he let his head droop forward.

He glanced up in a minute, feeling Red’s eyes on him. The crimson Link was gazing at him sadly, but there was more to the look than just that. He was aching. He was hesitant. He was distrustful, mournful, longing… Blue could only speculate at what Red saw in his own eyes. He hoped it was what he was feeling- regret, sorrow, apology… Among other things. Gods, if he was better with words, he would try to explain to Red how he felt, but he was sadly not that great.

Neither of them could hold the other’s gaze for very long; Red was the first to glance away, staring at his knees. Blue felt a lump forming in his throat, and he hesitantly raised a hand. He placed it on the log between him and Red, glancing away. Red could choose to ignore it if he wanted, or he could take it. There were several moments where nothing happened. Red was stock still, and Blue was a statue.

Minutes passed.

A pinky crept over Blue’s hand, brushing hesitantly against his fingertip.

Blue kept still, hardly daring to move as Red loosely intertwined their fingers. The tiniest of smiles grew on his face as he squeezed Red’s hand, and he felt it safe to risk a glance over. Though Red’s face was hidden behind a plume of blond hair, he could see a small smile tugging at his lips too.

He didn’t know how long the road was to them being okay again, but at the very least, they had taken the first step.
