“Ta-da!”
“What do you think?”
Violi, Creature and Mayhem were practically buzzing with excitement as they awaited the response of their friend and Grove expert - Advent Choc Milkncooki - and his little green pet dottie - Poinsettia. The trio had been working tirelessly to prepare their costumes for the haunted hootenanny since Advent had let it slip that the event was coming up soon. Normally not a mistake but it had quickly become the only topic the three had wanted to speak about with the older kit for months now, which he wasn’t the most keen on. Hootenanny was all his family had wanted to talk about while he was living at home so he was hoping to talk about something, anything else. Perhaps learn more about the Deadman’s Cove kits before those candy and costume enchanted impulses kicked in. Couldn’t be helped, he supposed. They were going to find out one way or another…

“You all look fantastic!” He praised, wiggling slightly as he looked at the kits. As much as he found himself bored by the Hootenanny, he couldn’t help but feel that sense of pride in these little kits he’d practically watched crawl out of the starlight pool for the first time. “Fantastic work!” He let out a small chuckle, letting himself relax into tired old habits as he thought to his family’s tradition of guessing each other’s consume choices.

“Alright, stay right there, let me guess what you are!”

Advent took a good long while studying each of the kits, the three letting out a few small giggles every now and again as he over-exaggerated his glances.

“Giant fish?” He mused looking at Mayhem first who let out a loud squeal of delight.
“You got it!”

“Classic mad scientist look! Love the cardboard fire!” To which the lab-coat donning purple kit proudly puffed her chest.

“And…” he looked a little confused for a second as he looked at Creature, “a boulder? Fear of falling rocks perhaps?”

“Oh! I’m not a scary falling boulder! Or rocks! Or pebbles!”

“You… aren’t? I’m so sorry!” Advent froze up for a moment as if he had committed some kind of horrendous cardinal sin by misidentifying a costume, “What are you then, Creech?”

“Well, you said Hootenanny costumes were s’posed to be scary and I thought real hard about the scariest thing I know…“ Creature began, squatting as if he was going to sit before remembering he was inside a giant papier-mâché rock with green felt “moss” stuck to the top of it and standing up again.

“The weird sound in the wall at the Starlight Pools!” The red kit all but yelled, his eyes flashing with emotion. “It’s like a scratching skritching and it keeps me up at night sometimes and it’s really scary and Mamas say it’s probably antmadillos but what if it’s a ghost? Or a monster? Or a ghost monster? We don’t know! We just don’t KNOW! It’s being the wall and all and you can’t look through the wall! At least… I don’t think you can look through walls… I can’t anyway but anyway! So I wanted to dress up at that but you can’t really dress up as a sound because you can’t see it so I made myself invisible!“ he finished with a grin.

“INGENIOUS!” Violi cried out, causing Mayhem to jump as she practically almost blew an eardrum, the purple kit had been silently on the edge of her metaphorical seat the entire time Creature had been talking so the sudden scream was unexpected to say the least.

“Yes, very good thinking, for sure.” Advent chuckled with a soft smile of agreement.

“Um… speaking of costumes, Moose?” Mayhem spoke up after a moment’s pause, Advent responding to his nickname with a Hm? before she continued, “What is yours supposed to be?”

“Oh that’s a fun one. Mine is the absolute HORROR OF A SINGLE MISSING BOOT!” A thoroughly creepy grin crossed the docile seeming reindeer like kit’s face as he announced it - almost as if he was in that moment possessed by the evil spirit of stolen property. It caused Mayhem to shudder yet just as soon as it had appeared, it vanished.

“It’s just in my bag, don’t worry.” He said with a soft innocent smile as if that expression had never happened… maybe it hadn’t… Mem wasn’t sure. Perhaps that unknown scared her more than any giant fish. But it wasn’t worth worrying about.
