Why is Firefly the way she is?:

Pyromania
Ever since childhood, Firefly absolutely fascinated by fire as, much like her, its unpredictable (and somewhat dangerous) nature leads it to be full of endless surprises (this can be as simple as the shapes in the flames to how large the flames can get before dying out). She gets bored easily so having an ever shifting source of entertainment is perfect for her and the huge adrenaline rush she receives by burning things she shouldn't only helps to strengthen this.
However, Firefly has had a habit of growing attached to these small fires to the point of giving them names and treating them as if they were actually alive when she's alone with them for long enough. This has been happening ever since she came back home from getting lost alone in the forest for several days. This behaviour is due to an enhanced desire for constant interaction and outside attention caused by her never wanting to feel the same loneliness and isolation again.

Hydrophobia/Temper
Though the over attachment to the flames is a coping mechanism, it only helps to heighten her already strong hydrophobia due to water being used by most people to "kill" her "friends".
Firefly's aforementioned fear of water mostly stems from her frequent recurring dreams about drowning due to a manifestation of her internal struggle with feeling like she's never good enough for her friends/family and that they only stick around because they have to instead of because they like her. This is because her impulsive nature leads others to have to almost baby her instead of treating her as an equal. Especially after the forest incident (that could have been avoided if she had simply thought through what she was doing before just running off) which further cemented her role as the untrustworthy, impulsive child who needs to be supervised for fear of her doing something stupid.
This has lessened since she moved out of the Nook and into the Cranny as she has been forced to be more independent, but it still haunts the back of her mind.

The Cycle
She hates being babied (even if it’s sometimes just in her head) and is often rather short-tempered due to it causing an overwhelming sense of inadequacy. This anger only helps to fuel the cycle as creating small fires with her magic can also be rather calming for her because it is the one thing she believes that will never truly leave her due to being about to summon it on command (unlike people who travel and change all the time).

Lays and stands on tables (not that she doesn’t do that normally, it’s just more pronounced when sappy)
