Description Water, newly-fashioned quills neatly in their special box, mid-flight snack... a soft smile crossed Starlight’s face as he looked upon each item carefully packed away into his bag. It was time once more for him to embark on the journey back to Last Notch. Long and arduous trip for sure but the look on his daughter’s face each time she saw him arrive was more than enough to make up for it.

One weekend per month... that’s all he was allowed. And even that he’d had to fight for. He practically had a second job with the amount of cleaning Russell had him doing in exchange for the time off... He had to make every second count!

Stepping out onto the dew-kissed grass immediately in front of his home, he turned his attention upward. The clear skies overhead were painted with the brilliant golden hue of sunrise, welcoming as the cool breeze swiftly swept any forming clouds southbound. Truly a breathtaking sight as he cast open his wings and leapt into takeoff... While it seemed as if he’d be battling against the wind this time, that was of no problem to him - well rested and fed, he was ready to take on just about anything.

Anything... except maybe the postie soaring toward him at maximum speed! Course correct! Course correct! Yet as Starlight floundered in the air to get out of the way, the smaller of the two donned a confident squint behind his goggles. Was he... speeding up? Honing in on his helpless target until... he was behind him? A texture in his right hand that wasn’t there before... a letter! How had he- so fast- he-?! Turning to face the blue winged gro, all Starlight could bring himself to do was to maintain his hover and give a small bewildered shake of his head. Hermes, in response, flashing him a small grin and a slight wave of his hand for a brief moment before streaking off in the opposite direction at an unfathomable speed.

Always moving... never stopping. The post never failed when Hermes was on the job, that was for sure... it was almost as if he knew exactly when he’d be leaving too. Oh well, best not to dwell on it... the few times he had tried to figure out how the postie got all his impossible information from he’d almost driven himself mad. Nevertheless, he had a letter to read... precious hours of sunlight he could be spending flying going to waste on reading what was likely just junk mail... With a long, slightly disappointed sigh, Starlight slowly brought himself back down to the ground to sit and read the letter.

The ‘URGENT MESSAGE’ scrawled on the front of it in big, bold, red letters was never a good sign... a wax seal too the small notch in the upper corner telling him immediately that this had been stamped by Russell... Of course it’d have to be sent right now. Couldn’t have waited for him to return from his trip, no doubt... ‘World doesn’t revolve around you, Starly.’ he scolded himself internally, slicing open the letter with a single stroke of a spare arrowhead from the side pocket of his bag.

Withers among wyngrew... all hands on deck... no trained Wynsiph spite hunters prohibited to leave town unless absolutely necessary... Any outsiders to be reported immediately for testing...

Great. How was he going to break this to poor little Kezzi?
