Description
Response to this - Goodbye MuffinsIt was true, he’d never seen Clover leave town... nor stray far from wherever she called home. Yet he was proud of her for being so brave. The outside world was filled with dangers - spites, bandits, natural disasters... Even general terrain could prove itself as worthy of caution at times. He was sure she knew as such.
Just a few days, nothing to worry about.
So why did her eyes tell him otherwise? Like she was holding back information from him... Guilt? She was no stranger to giving gifts but why paired with this news?
Philip’s mind began to race - practically tearing itself apart for answers - as he watched her begin to leave the room. He had been so scared when she had come down sick. The thought of losing her terrified him... and while she had recovered just fine, there were so many other things just out there. Waiting for the right opportunity to strike. What if it really was the last time he’d ever see her? Even if she didn’t die on her journey... what if... what if she’d found somewhere else to live and just... couldn’t bear to tell him? Some town far out of his reach. Somewhere where she could be so busy and successful that she’d completely forget about him. Was that it? These muffins a parting gift for... forever? He... wouldn’t blame her. Of course, Clover was one of his closest friends. He’d watched her grow and change and flourish. From tiny little hatchling barely able to move and speak to such a wonderful and amazing and caring person. And... and it would be so selfish of him to stop her from living her life. She didn’t... need him.
But he... He knew deep down that there was something he had to do. If he didn’t ask her now, he may well regret it for the rest of his life.
“CLOVER, WAIT!” He screamed, sprinting down the hall and skidding to a halt directly in her path. “C-Clo... Before you go... I...” the words caught in his throat as the tears he was desperately trying to keep at bay fought back. “I was... would... would it be... I...” his tail lashing in frustration as he tried to just get the words out, he closed his eyes and focused. “Do you think that maybe... T-that I... could... could have one last hug?” He finally managed to ask, a single tear managing to break through his blockade, rolling down his cheek and onto the floor as he propped himself up on his back legs and opened his arms.
That was it. A hug. Just a single hug. He couldn’t explain it... but for something so simple, he had never wanted anything more in his life than in that moment.
