Sleep. It was all they had done recently. Sleep and read. They were rested... but not the right amount. Looped back to tired. Even if Nim stayed awake, the body still suffered. Everything was heavy... dull... Even when she wasn’t insisting on going back to sleep, Min was barely even talking to her for fear their parents might hear.

It was nothing more than a retreat for her... Nim knew that much. Min running away from her problem in the only way she knew how... It wasn’t like there was anything better to do but as much as she appreciated having her own pillow to rest on, her mind was growing restless as it worked overtime trying to figure out just how to not only get them out of this mess but how to make Min happy again. To convince her it wasn’t her fault... She’d had slumps like this in the past but it had never been this bad before.

Pap pap. Pap pap. Pap pap.

Footsteps? Didn’t sound like hooves... or four legs for that matter. Weird.

“Lady Min?” An unfamiliar voice called from behind the door. Shoot. Min had only recently exhausted herself crying, she wasn’t waking up anytime soon... shoot, shoot, shoot. What was she supposed to do? Pretend to sleep? Don’t respond, at least... but-
The door creaked open, revealing a small pink aipom who entered and then closed the door behind her. “Lady Min, I have been advised to enter the room regardless of your input. Pray tell, are you awake?”
While she was panicking, Nim still really wasn’t in the mood for stupid questions, even if she wasn’t meant to be the one they were aimed at. She couldn’t help herself as she glanced between Min and the stranger with an expression that could only be described by ‘are you stupid?’.

“You must be awake if you’re moving your tail like that.” Nim rolled her eyes. Right, of course. Figures... “My name is Gracidea, I have been assigned to be your personal caretaker and-“ SCREW IT!
“You’re kidding me! Really?!” Nim spat, her voice laced with a harsh cackle.
“L-Lady Min?!”
“Nim...” she hissed, “You’re talking to a brick wall here, missy. Can’t you see she’s asleep, honestly woman, use your eyes...”
“I... this must be the ventriloquism that I was warned of.” Was muttered in return. Nim hated that word. She hated so much... yet as much as she wanted to lash out, she knew how much it would upset Min to wake up to that.
“Ugh... whatever.”
“Lady Min, you are to stop that at once and prepare yourself for we will be headed out shortly... unless you wish to continue like this. It can always be postponed another week.”
Wait... out? They were going out? Nim’s entire expression changed in an instant as she raised one of the body’s front hooves and began to quickly tap Min’s face, much to the confusion of the aipom.

‘Come on, Min. Wakey, wakey.’

Min let out a small groan as she began to stir, her eyelids still heavy with sleepiness as she fought to open them. She could feel their left front hoof as it smooshed against her cheek, completely out of her control. Nim... That was Nim’s voice in her head just now. Nim wanted her awake? Why? Wait. Was that breathing she could hear? Was there... someone else in the room with them?

With a small gulp, Min raised her head, ears tilting as she tried to pick up on where the breathing sound was coming from. “H-hello?” She called, her voice shaky if a little raspy from lack of use, “W-who is ther-?”
“Oh, come now, Lady Min. It is not polite to feign ignorance. Especially of those who have only just introduced themselves. Prepare yourself for a walk around town, I shall be awaiting you outside this door.”

“A walk...” Min repeated quietly to herself as she listened to the stranger briskly stride away. The soft click of the door as it shut with no following key jingle to accompany it. Whoever they were, they were serious.

‘That’s the new maid, Min.’
‘The... oh I see.’
‘Her name is Gracidea, she’s an aipom and I can already tell she’s going to be a right pain in the-‘
‘NIM!’
‘What? It’s true! Buuut... she’s our ticket out of here.’
