Description This is my personal Head Canon. It does not follow the MLP:FIM show storyline. My Headcanon does not follow the Season Finale. Please respect that I have different opinions then you.

Changelings! As everyone knows already, changelings are my favorite species in the show. Whether its their ability to change their shape at will, their unique hive-mind mentality, or the fact they are heavily influenced by their instincts and that need to consume, Changelings have formed a special place in my heart.

I like the idea that Chrysalis's hive is one of many different factions, and that there are many hives spread out and hidden amongst Equestria and the surrounding nations. These are only three examples.

The green changelings' hive (Hive created by )originated from a more densely swamp like area, which fit more for their coloration and glow-in-the-dark body markings. They are a more violent hive, relentless in their feeding and are known for draining their victims into husks and disposing the bodies in the swamp.

The yellow changelings, (designed by ) with their natural fluffy mane, originate in the north near Yakyakistan. They are more accustom to colder climates and are a relatively passive, non aggressive faction of changeling, taking only what they need to survive.

And of course the blue changelings belong to Chrysalis's hive. They are from the badlands and living in a harsher environment make it so they have a larger built, with stockier bodies to adapt to the elements more. Chrysalis's hive use to be the main hive of Equestria, keeping the other hives at bay. At least until the failed Canterlot Wedding invasion.

My head canon tries to follow that of things found in nature, to keep a more natural sense. Of course this is a magical world so there is some fantasy to it. Despite popular theory, I do believe changelings have genders. Male changelings (Drones) and Female changelings (Workers/Warriors) are all children of the Queen.

A female's job can vary from protecting the hive from intruders, scout out new places to gather love, as well as gathering love. A female changeling is only slightly larger then a male and isn't very noticeable unless seen side by side. A female's fangs are naturally smaller, and are easier to hide away inside their mouth. When faced with a threat, a female may change her fangs to look larger to look more menacing, as well as to trick the enemy into think they are drone.

A male's job can consist of gathering love, tending to eggs and larvae of the hive, as well as other menial tasks in the hive. A drone can go out and do field work like a worker, but it would mainly consist of love gathering. A male changeling naturally has thicker limbs and a stockier body.

That's all the headcanon I have for you to day! Feel free to ask questions and I'll try my best to answer them.

I prefer these changelings over the new ones, i love how you have the fins on them. Though i imagine some changelings with beautiful hair i often see many having fins like this an some finds slightly different than others. I love alot the changelings have created over the years by the fans more than hasbro and did. ^^

One of the things I love about the MLP community is the diverse headcannons/theories many have towards the characters, settings, and events in the series, especially when it involves the changelings and bat ponies, and yours is most definitely an attention-grabber!

I love the designs you and Queen did for these fractions, as it would make sense most would be different depending on the region they live in. My favorite are definitely the yellow changelings. I love their overall design, especially the wings. ^^

The real life insect inspirations... OMG YES!

There are 3 kinds of creatures I have come to love over the years. Reptiles, Arthropods, and Avians, and this piece is just amazing! Great job!

That is not my Season Finale!!! XD
I do agree with you. I love lings and I feel they need some deeper development. Aside of what they always receive in the show: bads are bads because they are bads and then magic rainbow fix everything .

I love this, far better than the crappy fairy evolution of the final season GOOD GOD.

I like the diversity of the hives and the idea that their's more than one colony, and that each hive is unique in accordance to their environment. That's a unique feature that most people ignore when creating a diverse species.

I also like how there's a subtle difference with the genders in terms of size and shapes, and how there are different tasks to the genders.
Even though I object to sentient communities limiting the roles of warriors to a specific gender rather than allowing ones combative abilities to speak for their worthiness. Though I do like how you basically handed Males the tasks of being "hunters" while the females are soldiers.

Personally, I'd rather follow your head canon than the canon of the show. You keep the species as their fearful, and villainous insectoid selves.

Now I eagerly await the day you draw Chrysalis herself (erotically or non-erotically I don't care).

There would be male warriors as well, don't get me wrong, its just mostly a female job, since males are more valuable to the hive as a whole.

Rexlare In reply to AskBubbleLee [2016-11-18 05:55:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh? And what makes the males more valuable, Breeding purposes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AskBubbleLee In reply to Rexlare [2016-11-18 06:03:36 +0000 UTC]

mainly yes. Females are infertile and can't reproduce while males can breed the queen if necessary. So it makes more sense for females to be put in more dangerous situations then males.

So you really are keeping true to the insect hive theme eh?

AskBubbleLee In reply to Rexlare [2016-11-18 06:25:41 +0000 UTC]

trying too. it makes the most sense to me when I think of changelings.

Rexlare In reply to AskBubbleLee [2016-11-18 15:48:48 +0000 UTC]

It definitely is a logical course of action.

To me though, with their greater level of sentience and individuality compared to a normal hive mind in our world, I like to imagine there's more room for individuality in the hive, so long as it doesn't hinder the rest of the swarm. And that the Queen isn't purely necessary for the reproduction of the hive, but still looks down to her subjects as her children, rather than her just her descendants.

Still, your head canon is interesting none the less. I look forward to more changelings.

I actually agree with most of this, I've always liked the idea of more then one hive. A also like the idea that there are both genders of works...though the job of the males destroys one of my ocs who is a male changeling general XD but to each their own. Though do you think their will be changelings based in the frozen north?

AskBubbleLee In reply to Dracothestern [2016-11-18 03:14:22 +0000 UTC]

Sorry I was trying to base them off bees.

And the yellow changelings are mostly based in the north, but i doubt anything could survive in the frozen north.

OHHH ok XD like I said to each their own.

OHh ok XD here I was thinking a Changeling with white fluff instead of yellow or green.
