"... I'm finishing my date with Mark. Whatever animosity you feel towards me should have nothing to do with him."

He only shook his head, but complied with your request. "If only you knew my dear... if only you knew..."

The next thing you knew, you were outside of the theater, sitting on a bench next to your date. He started, screeching your name.

"(Y/N)! I was so worried! Where did you go?!" You blinked, shaking your head.

"I'm really sorry for scaring you like that, Mark. I ran into an... old acquaintance. He was purposefully trying to hold me up."

"Why would someone do that?"

"He... doesn't trust me around other men, I guess you could say. We have a..."

"Complicated relationship?" Mark finished softly, brown eyes filled with understanding. You nodded hesitantly, and his smile softened. "I know we don't really know each other but- well, you look like you need a hug or something. C'mere." Despite your protests, he pulled you into a hug, chin resting on your head.

Somehow, this felt... familiar.

Warm.

"I wasn't kidding when I said you were beautiful, (Y/N). Never forget that." He whispered softly.

Two years later, and you still hear those words from him.

And three months after that?

He was the only man that could say that to you with those eyes, that warm smile. Because now, you could finally call him yours.
