So technically, Mae still has her eye!
But, it's like a really bad bruise, so she hides it - eventually, she will lose vision in it and there is a possibility that there will be a hole (but don't worry, she'll get a glass eye)

Mild Rot in fruit people is kinda like cancer - it's not curable, and it's really slow, and can sometimes kill people depending on the area. It's a touchy subject, but a lot of fruit people can survive after Mild Rot episodes, given they get it treated properly.

Similarly to how people will shave their heads for chemo support, family members who have people with Mild Eye Rot will cut their hair over their eye to show support as well (which is what Mae's Auntie OJ did for her)
