Spineterids are a somewhat uncommon sight, no matter where you are. There are many different species and sub-species of Spineterid, but the one you are most likely to see is the Common Spineterid. Spineterids move very quickly in and out of water, and are quite similar to humans in a few ways; they are social creatures, but can choose to be solidary, and are fairly intelligent. They are omnivorous creatures that actively hunt or scavenge, depending on how scarce food is. Though they are passive-agressive, they are far from harmless. Along thier backs are rows of ajustable spines, that when they feel threatened, anxious, or angry, fill up with a paralytic poison that slows foes. A small amount of this poison will sluggify your movements and reactions, but get a bunch of this toxin in your system, and your whole body will become paralyzed. Get too much into your system, and the toxin has the capability to PARALYZE YOUR HEART. Speaking of its poisonous spines, it can throw the spines on its tail to poison enemies, and it grows them back within 1-3 hours. However, not all of its spines are detachable. The only safe place to grab a Spineterid is by it's dorsal spines, when when its lifted by them, its whole body goes limp as an instinctive responce(like when you grab a cat by the scruff of its neck). The Spineterids dorsal spines are connected directly to its spinal colum, so the removal of these spines is a matter of life or death, or a lifetime of being crippled. If they feel threatened, one of thier stradegies is to arch their backs, spines spread out, to appear larger than they really are, and to show off their poisonous spines. One of the astronomicly rare types of Spineterids to find is the rare Spineless Spineterid, a Spineterid born without its poisonous spines. While Spineterids come in many different sizes and body styles, but none are more rare and treasured than the Golden Edged Spineterid. To Spineterids, the Golden Edged is considered higher than royalty.
