Description I am not sure if the category fits. This is the project for a scene background I made for a friend (large 6 m X 7m) and it was used for a music festival. Looked great, I will post the shots as soon as I will have them.
Afterward we realised that it was too high, so it endent more elongated, but this one was the initial project.

On verra.
Tu sais, je serais vraiment contente que tu t'exposes dan un lieu bien, quelque chose qui te conviennes à toi et à tes idées. Et ne me dis pas que tu ne sais pas où faire imprimer tes photos Ça ne prend pas avec moi.

I like the design, it has nice contrast and fitting colours. The jpeg compression is set quite high though, giving artefacts in the gradient colours. It may not be very important for the upload as such, but to me it influences the first impression at least. png is perhaps better?

You are probably right...I see artifacts on the round edges. Anyway, it was not maximum quality because it has to be printed on a large plotter, and done to be seen from a distance.

So how did it look like in the end on the stage, do you have any photos? Would be cool to see. And how did the printing go, did you have several large sheets plotted that you stitched together?

I have not sorted my shots yet, because I was away with one exhbition and I came back home dog tired...
The white parts were on large sheets, not great printing quality but well, that's it. And we made another large print, cutted all the remaining circles, and stiched on the black fabric background. We made 2 other background this way with something different. But the man who was supposed to print them is a nob, and we gave him the files one month in advance, but he came with the third print at the end of the day when the installation was finished and my friend arranged things with something else.

Modelling on a small scale on computer is fine, I like doing this way because it allow trying many things.
But we must find another solution for making large scale backgrounds for next year.

Depends how good the background has to be, and using fabric may have looked better. Alternatively if you'd want to do it with a normal printer you could consider something like the rasterbator: [link]

Yes I know rasterbator ; but printing on my own printer is not really an option, too expensive paper and inks.
Printing on fabric is not an option either because it is too expensive for the little festival : just doing what we can...The money from the tickets goes for the musicians -many of them have only the travel fare paid - and electricty and sound material renting.
May be next year I like raster on many sheets with a desktop printer. Or just use white paper and an optic pattern on the black fabric.
Anyway, it was fun.

Rasterbator will be a bit of work and of course it will cost a bit of money, the ink especially. I don't know how much the guy charged for doing the plotting though, but there will always be some kind of expense. I think what I would do with this kind background is to just buy white and black paper and arrange them as in the picture, and then either cut out the circles from coloured paper or if the gradient colour was important I'd print the circles individually. Of course it may not look precisely as in the picture but it would probably be good enough and would not cost terribly much either.

It is exactly what we have done : printed on white paper. But the backgrounds are already black fabric, so we just cutted some printed circles and attached them to the fabric.
I have an epson4000 printer for my real artwork and yes, the inks ( that are supposed to last long ) cost a lot.
