The Gods and Goddesses of the Underworld do not interfere with the souls making their journey to Duat.  That is why the Funerary Texts were so important to Ancient Egyptians, if they wanted to survive the dangers they needed to know the names of their enemies, thus, rendering them harmless.  If the dead were not prepared, they were not worthy to enter the gates of the Underworld.  Or at least, that's how I took it.  The Pharaoh was considered a god and although I didn't illustrate it, they could be given servants and guards to help the king fight the dangers in the Underworld.  Also, no one really CONTROLS the dangers, they're just there to pose as obstacles (Apophis is a force of nature/chaos, so no stopping that).  Anubis the God of Embalming, he nor anyone else really has any say in the matter of the In Between the Living and the Dead.  Imagination comes in handy when there are gaps in what we've discovered of our ancient human world.

huh, never would have seen that way, but it does prove in later pages he does care, or at the very least becomes concerned for them. ^^
