This is a comment to be submitted to BeccaJS 's project:Β Critmas 2015!
Now, you'll notice that I am NOT a very good visual artist myself, but I do admire great visual works and wanted to leave you my observations. If they're helpful, yay! If not, well. I tried.
First, I want to say how impressed I am with your animation. There is a lot going on in this little emote! I love, love, love the reflection technique you've got going, especially when the little guy wins and starts squeeing. Adorable! All of the animation looks very smooth as well. I didn't notice any jumps or uneven frames, so really nice work there.Β
The feedback I have is mostly regarding the angle of the little guy vs the angle of his reflection. The way it is situated now, I don't think that we'd realistically be able to see that much of his face in the reflection with him sitting in such a low chair. If the chair was raised just a couple of pixels, the reflection would make a lot more sense. That would also mean that he didn't have to reach so far up to pull the lever.Β
You might also consider adding in a bit more shading to the machine itself to sort of create a more reflective looking surface. I don't know if you've ever been to a casino, but most of the slots machines are quite fancy and colorful to draw attention. And the ones that are made of metal are very shiny. as for the feedback:
i see what you mean with the chair vs. the reflection. as for shading, do you mean highlights from other machines? i've never been to a casino myself, i've seen them on TV though. always seemed like fun though i have to say if i were to go to a casino, i would probably never have gone over to play the slots i do know that they have a lot of glamour and shiny sparkly and luminescent signs everywhere but i figured such stuff would just clutter the animation and take focus away from the little guy winning (or losing 'cause he never does get his money)

Not necessarily highlights from other machines. Just that the way the color of the machine is a solid shade of gray makes it look flat when it could have more dimension by adding in a bit of shading.Β
Casinos are fun, but I wouldn't recommend slot machines either.
