Description
I felt that my hands in my drawings were not very good, so over seven days I drew a hand a day. Turns out, it's likely my drawn hands are not looking as good as I would like because they are usually very small. For the practice I went much larger than I usually do when drawing hands. I used my own left hand as a reference for each hand. Each hand is numbered based on the day I drew them on. Here are my thoughts on each of them1: Pretty good hand in my opinion. Compared to my usual hands, this is quite good. Probably not the best hand ever drawn, but I am proud of it. I don't see any situation where I would draw someone making a peace sign, but I figured that would be a good starting point.
2: Another hand, different pose. This one is one I am more likely to draw. And if I did draw a completed piece and this is how the hand turned out, I would be very happy with it. The thumb is not quite as bent as I would like it to appear though.
3: I'm not as happy with number 3 as I am with most of the others. The little finger is a little wavy looking, thumb has this strange curve, and the hand from the tip of the fingers to the wrist feels a little too long.
4 : A fist again, but from a different angle. This one is nice, I really like the line detail I put in to show where the flesh of the hand has moved to form the fist (Like the lines on the little finger or the line that separates my thumb's range of movement from the rest of my hand) Unfortunately, the picture didn't do a good job of capturing the knuckle lines that show were the fingers bend, meaning they just look like one, unbendable appendage
5: I am most proud of number 5. It meets all of my parameters: It looks well draw, It is a hand position I am likely to do, and it matches the reference (my left hand) well. The only difference is that my nails are not that long. I really like that I managed to capture the finger in the back and the bending it had.
6: Eh. A hand position I actually plan on doing in a more complete project (but from a very different angle) but not executed as well as I would like. I didn't capture the depth of the fingers well and the hand feels a little wide. The knuckle lines are a bit too defined and the little finger is very thin. Not my best work, but not my worst either.
7: I ran out of ideas for hand positions, and because I would do these during school I didn't want to do a certain gesture. So, Live Long and Prosper. I do not see myself drawing the Spock Hand in an official drawing of mine. Not bad, but I don't think the quality of this one is as great as some of my other hands during this practice.
NOTE: This was done on the back of a notebook, so sorry if some of the hands are hard to see.
