Description
Usually I try to finish at least one piece every Saturday Stream, but this time it's just this in progress shot.Took me a while to decide what to do today, and then I ended up doing something bigger than expected. I probably also spend more time on the background than needed (even deleted a bunch of stuff there..)
Anyhow, this is going to be a new addition to my First Contact War universe. Exploring the Zebras again! (for some reason)
It's a bit calmer piece, as my initial goal was to just design armour, but as you can see that kinda expanded
They're fairly packed together, I might spread them out a bit more. although... do Zebras have the tendency to stand together?
Approx time so far: 4-6 hours?

This could be like the Long Patrol of Equestria.

Oh, these look good.
Did you drawinspiration from anything in particular?
Can't wait to see more.
PS: Yes, zebras tend to group together, so their stripes will blend together from a distance to confuse predators.

Zebras might live in a strict hierarchy but still respect, help and stick to each other even more than ponies do - that would make them very inspiring. Not sure about matriarchy/patriarchy, matriarchy is already what ponies have, but in ancient tribes, shamanΒ (profession not requiring any physical strength β prob. a female zebra)Β was usually the most honorable position... a wise mother of clan sounds great.
This project of yours looks flawless. It has a potential to be about as widespread as Fallout:Equestria (or even more)

Dem colorful uniforms.
Though, scenery gives more of a Native American/Buffalo feel than something that'd be much more "Zebra". I would have expected more open-grassland than American mid-west.

This should come in handy I've been wanting to make royal guard/ warrior Zebras for sometime. I was thinking about trying to create a Star/War Craft concept of Ponies. Very epic pic.
