Description
It was my first time in one Finnish "iron age fair", so i wanted to make quite flashy dining gear for my own use in that place. Probably quite bling pieces compared to simple wooden spoons, what you normally see on viking tables.Related content

I forged it from spring steel, and hardened with water.
It's not really sharp like razor blades, but still good enough for cutting meat and bread etc.

I coated them with renaissance wax, so there is not any recognizable iron taste, but if some forged cutlery piece starts to rust it maybe cause some problems with eating etc.
These are not for sale and i don't even make any business to outside Finland, but you can find probably quite similar pieces from medieval reenactment shops.

Utensils fit for a king. I especially love the patterns on the handles - how did you make them, if it's not a secret?

Thanks again for the fave.
I'm sure that every blacksmith know's that trick. You just heat the small section of square forged steel with oxy acetylene torch and twist it to some direction when it's red hot. When the part cools down a little bit, you heat the next small section and twist it other way.
When the whole handle is twisted like that you just sanded the actual steel visible from the hight parts, for giving that zebra look, because the actual heated surface is always quite dark. You can also make some chiseled lines to flat surfaces before twisting the square rod, because that gives extra "relief lines" for that final pattern.

Alas, I'm no blacksmith yet. Thanks for the "behind the curtains"- description, though. Will be sure to remember it.Β

AWSOME! Do you sell stuff like that? Or could you tell me where I could get similar ones? Because These look just incredibly beautiful!

Thanks for the compliments. It was only personal work and i don't usually sell even more simpler pieces to outside Finland.
I remerber quite similar forged eating utensils from one other gallery in here.Β Pictures are from viking festival Wolin, so maybe you have to ask if the photographer know who made those things and how much they cost. (Not probably very much, if their workshop is located somewhere in East-Europe..)
