Thank you! I like the Rosewood, it works and polishes up really nice. The next blade I make I will do a better job of grinding so that there will not be any surface imperfections.

sometimes the imperfections add to the beauty of the blade. i have seen one blade where the maker hammered the carbon back into the steel as he forged it, gave the sword a unique aged look while not harming the blade.

Sounds beautiful! I live in a city now, so I had to leave my coal forge behind. That type of forging canβt be done with a gas forge.

yea. i need to save up some money so i can build my coal forge. i'm the kind that prefers building my own instead of buying one. maybe it won't be perfect, but it will be mine.

βI scrounge, therefore I amβ For low cost I would check out the salvage stores, scrap yards, and Goodwill. An old hair-dryer, some steel pipe, and an old BBQ could be the start of a forge. Many plans for coal forges can be found on the internet and in books. Good luck, be safe, and have fun!

lots of firebrick, appropriate mortar, and a massive amount of searching for a plan i like.

Ambitious! From experience, IΒ know it is hard to find larger pieces of Rosewood without checks and cracks. I had to go through a whole pallet of Rosewood planks to find an non-cracked piece to make a sword blade out of.

Why the steel in wood? Some of the martial art stave's I have are made of wood, rattan, or bamboo. They are far lighter and more practical then steel, if you are going to fight with it.
