Description
Made this for a group of people in the critique corner (join viaΒ discord.gg/q2H3UXR )I usually use GS shading
Please ask me if you have any questions
Sorry about the bad handwriting... ill type it all down here:
GS Shading:
1. Start off with a base grey color (I use 142 R,G,B)
2. Lay out the shades on your shade line on the object... try to make it as 3D as possible
3. Blend using this setting (see on picture) Between the lines made previously.
4. Copy the starting layer. Then change the new layers blending to overlay and color over it! *Make sure to have the protect alpha box clicked, however!*
Layering Shading:
1. Start off with your final color
2. Use a darker shade and continuously go over it with a brush.
Move up and down the color wheel as well as get darker
Cel Shading:
1. Start off with your final base color
2. Use Multiply to shade and add to highlight
NEVER USE BLACK TO SHADE

This is very helpful. Thank you! I'll probably use this tutorial to experiment with more digital art (because right now i specialize more in traditional, but it'd be cool to get more digital art in).

No problem! Thanks for sending it to others, by the way! I want to make sure that people get the fundamentals of shading which is suuuuuuuch a big part of art in general and was one of the things I completely ignored when I started.
This is applicable to both digital art and traditional, except you have to make the finished product with your medium... not sure how to do that since I work mainly with digital. However, feel free to try it out! Β
Thanks again!
