No lens flare:

Edit:
Wow, thanks for all the faves, guys!
Here's some more info about this one. This is from the game World of Warcraft. What I do is I take screenshots of backgrounds and models and work my magic in gimp to produce these. You can check out all the software and programs I use if you scroll down on my profile. I list everything there

How much are you betting? In the game you can beat it in a fight. Although it requires a small army consisting of its 4 'siblings', a lore hero, and 10/25 players with countless unnamed npc's.

Very long story, but if you're willing to hear me out I can give you the gist of it.

i'll probably never play W.O.W. so i wouldnt want you to waste your time. i like single player rpg's. dont like online ones much.

I like telling stories though, so it would not be a waste of my time at all, if you want to know the story.

Well, it starts with knowing a bit of background on the boss himself.
Deathwing was once known as Neltharion, one of 5 dragon 'aspects' put in charge of the world and the father of the black dragonflight. He was in charge of being 'Earth-warder' while the others were in charge of life(red dragonflight), magic(blue dragonflight), time(bronze dragonflight) and dreams(green dragonflight).
He was corrupted, causing his black scales to burst and lava to flow from his wounds, which he patched with special large metal plates.
He made an item from one of his own scales and the power of his 4 'siblings' known as the 'Dragon Soul', essentially a golden disc about the size of a mortal's hand.

The 'Dragon Soul' raid instance, where you eventually kill him, you start by travelling toward the temple of Wyrmrest and on the way, killing three of his named (boss)lackeys and countless nameless minions.
Once you reach the large temple and free the defensive forces to keep guard, you fly to the top of the temple, meeting the 4 remaining aspects and an orcish shaman hero known as 'Thrall'. They had retrieved the Dragon Soul and desperately try to use it against Deathwing. After beating two more of his named lackeys on top of the temple, Thrall uses the Dragon Soul to blast one of the plates off his back, he turns and flies toward the Maelstrom, the 'center' of the planet.
The aspects, Thrall and heroes(players) then board an airship and chase him. After beating off one more named lacky and his dragon-riding band of cultists the raid parachutes down onto Deathwing's back and start to work prying off the plating on his back, while fighting off corrupt elementals etc.
Once enough plates are pried off, Deathwing crashes into the Maelstrom.
He survives it, but is now badly broken up, using the remains of both wings and his front legs to grip onto rocky platforms.
The Aspects, one per platform, help the raid break off each limb at a time. After all limbs are destroyed, Deathwing falls face-down, bleeding onto one platform and the raid weakens him by attacking his face.
After he is finally weakened enough, the aspects all sacrifice their immortality and most of their powers into the Dragon Soul to finish off Deathwing for good, leaving not even dust where he used to be.

sounds badass. makes me want to play the game actually.

Warcraft in itself has an amazing wealth of lore, and if you manage to get into the right roleplay server on WoW, you'll actually have much of the experiences of being in a singleplayer game, being ble to actually play your character.

However, Normal and PVP servers are just people playing their characters as puppets, most ignore the lore of it all.

But I do warn you. World of Warcraft is a highly social(some say addictive) game, making it very hard to quit after making connections with people. Plus, it's a game 7 years old. So many good players have left the rp scene for newer games. It'll be a bit difficult to settle in.
But if you want to learn more of the lore, there's always the wiki and such. You don't have to play the game for it.

just 3 more questions here (as these determine wether i'll play it or not)

does it have an in-game adjustable camera?

how much does it cost?

how big is the game download?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eppon In reply to alkarioma [2012-04-15 23:18:50 +0000 UTC]

The ingame camera is fully adjustable via camera settings, from first-person to 3rd person view with many other little options to lock it, or change it.

The game is subscription based, so you pay most for time to keep your account active, not the game itself.
But a trial account is free, and allows you to experience the game up to lvl 20, if you want to see the options and the like before considering investing in it. I'd say try that and see what it takes.

As for the costs should you choose to play it, I checked the US store (since I'm an EU player) .
Gametime is 15 dollars per month(30 days) with minor discounts for higher amounts of time bought.
There are many types of online payments, as well as gamecards that can be bought in game stores.

The 'battle chest' is 20 dollars, which has both the original game and first expansion (fantasy world/alien themed subworld, up to lvl 70) .
The second expansion(Nordic, frost themed, up to lvl 80) is 30 dollars and the 3rd (destruction/elemental themed, up to lvl 85) is 40 dollars.
There is a 4th expansion underway as well,(oriental themed, lvl cap increased to 90) but the release date and price of that are still unknown.
Previous expansions are mandatory to upgrade to new expansions.(can't play 3rd expansion without having the first and second, etc)

As for the system requirements, it'll vary on the amount of expansions but the original game+expansion is 10.3 MB, according to the site.

Also, here's a link tot he US Blizzard store so you can compare prices for yourself: [link]

i'll try it out then probably. as the most important issue for me would have been the filesize. it's pretty small so i'll give it a go.

I don't mind being bothered. It means I can show off my wealth of worthless knowledge

From the game perspective, you have a chance at killing him, but it would be much harder to pull of if this was more realistic

It is! ... sort of xD The background is a screenshot from in-game, but the model is taken from a program called WoW Model Viewer, I did some nitpicky touchups to add as much realism to the model and then spiced it up with some contrast and a lens flare

Don't you mean Nerf'd the leveling experience? /chuckle Oh well. Makes having 3 85's easier to happen. Where did you take the screenshot?

AstralMelodia In reply to Boshuko-san [2012-04-13 21:03:58 +0000 UTC]

It's definitely easier, that's for sure. But the background was just taken of the sky after I used WoW Machinima Tool to change it to the Maelstrom skybox in the Dragon Soul raid. WMT is probably the best tool for not only Machinimators, but for artists like me, too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Boshuko-san In reply to AstralMelodia [2012-04-13 21:08:37 +0000 UTC]

I would have been fine after the screenshot of the sky... You kinda lost me with the rest. xP I'm not really an artist, nor do I use the computer editing stuff. I was just wondering if it was a special place you went to get it to look like that or not.

!! I think we all just got the "Stood in the Fire" Achievement, though. xD

Anyway, great work here. :3

I got really P.O'd one time. I was fighting with a group that said they would help me fight, then we all went in...... except the tank.... He left group and ran off laughing. We all died, despite me being in disc spec.

What server you play on? If this is too personal, just ignore me. ^^U

Good idea. I set it as my wallpaper too.

And @TheSeeker2 - I really like how well you blended Deathwing, the background, and the fire together. It looks great! I also think it looks better with the lens flare. It gives it just the right amount of effect to make it perfect.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AstralMelodia In reply to TheGreatCharcoal [2012-04-12 17:24:47 +0000 UTC]

Glad you think so! I watched the Cataclysm cinematic a couple times to see how the fire in there looked in appearance. I originally was trying to make his wings glow to show more lighting from the fire, but I think the lens flare took that effect away, but I'm fine with it because the picture (like you pointed out) blends together nicely
