Last night we found a praying mantis outside of our house.. it was still there this morning so we took some photos. This was shortly before it decided it had enough lenses shoved in its face and flew away

I love the way she/he's looking at you. Very cool. Preying Matnis are so cool. I love them. My father brought one home and the little one walked all over my hands. It didn't want to go on the leaf when I had to go!

These guys are so big sometimes I think I'd be a bit creeped out about picking them up but they are very cool bugs for sure!

I don't like all bugs, but the little mantis was nice and friendly.
I found that he she was less scary than a spider.

I didn't know that they could fly, I knew that they had wings but the wing-to-body ratio just doesn't match up (or maybe the ones that I catch are just fat)

I was pretty surprised when it flew away as well.. I knew they had wings but didn't think those wings could support proper flight either.

He looks like you just caught him doing something he shouldn't have been.

It does look as if it's staring right at you there, aware of what you're doing.
I think it's fantastic how it is coloured.. coloured in such a way to camouflage itself, except for that light green strip which makes it all the more interesting too.

it was very neat.. he would look away and then he would look right at me.. he was very aware that I was right there. I don't think he felt threatened by me and I tried to give him as much space as I could (I know I wouldn't want some giant hovering over me). We later found an all green one that appeared to be a bit larger than this guy.. but I agree, this ones coloring is very interesting.
