Description
14 x 14 inch Pastel on Suede paper. A recent commission of beautiful Himalayan "Fudgee"Kindly featured by Aug 2015 Pastel Paper Questions and Live Drawing EventSo, a feature for the pastel artists out there!
And now a question for the pastel artists:
So, I've been looking around to buying decent coloured and slightly textured pastel paper. So far I haven't found any I liked yet. So far I've tried Reeves (the lined texture in it is absolutely awful) and I've tried Canson Mi-Teintes (I find the texture has too many holes that show through for my liking). I'd like paper that has something for the pastels to grip to but I can do detail with. Any suggestions of brands and where to buy them?
Should I try watercolour paper?
Also, I'm going to be participating in a live drawing event for 5 hours

adorable - i had a persian colour point who looked quite similar, and even with those bright blue eyes - i didn´t like persians at all, and if you had told me before that i would have one myself and even love him i would have declared you crazy, haha - but sammy was a real gentleman with character, a real charmer and conquered my heart without any extra effort - did i think persians were like sleep pills? yes, i did! how foolish and ignorant of me, he was an excellent and fast hunter with extremely long claws and an ability to jump easily much higher than a "normal" cat - he once even caught a pidgeon on my balcony...
and now i look into bright blue eyes again and have to think of him - sigh - what a nice portrait you made...

You really do have a way with cats, capturing there personalities and the handling of the fur and tones is spot-on.

I once met a Himalayan. She was beautiful and very friendly. She especially loved the tummyrubs I gave her.

A beautiful, captivating cat....Such stunning eyes! You've made it look so intent and beguiling!!Gorgeous!!Fudgee is a brilliant name!!
Suede paper looks good for pastels!!Still don't know how you get such whispy ,delicate hairs with pastels!!

Thankyou, Fudgee has expressive eyes, slightly cranking. The owner said I had captured his expression perfectly. I would not recommend suede paper as it has very little tooth which makes it very difficult to add layers. I wont be using it again other than for drawings.
love

worse than fabric, when I googled other people's opinion on suede paper I got a similar response. I should have done that before using it. Another learning experience. :
