Whether it’s the empowerment of the reader’s imagination or empowerment of the reader with great eternal truths, the idea of books being living, breathing, magical instruments of enlightenment has a universal beauty well-represented here. The initial impact of the dragon bursting from the page is so very effective that it takes a moment to see the rest of the story: the young girl seeing herself reflected in the damsel being held in the dragon’s claw – and the battle going on as the valiant knights attempt to rescue her. The best artworks are those that tell stories that both children and adults can take away joy and wisdom from.
