Description First of all I must state that this is official Mass Effect concept art and that I take no credit for it. This is copyrighted material. All I've really done is photoshop the male Turian to what I believe a female Turian would look like.

Now that that's out of the way, I'll explain my thought process. First thing I tried to do is make her a bit daintier than the male Turian, for this I basically just barely shrunk her and slimmed down some of her features. Then I rounded out some of the spikier bits, which I thought was too much of a male trait. I also figured that the larger mandibles and carapace might both be distinctive male features used to impress females, therefor they would be downplayed in females. I also took the opportunity to give her a smaller jaw.

Also, based on Garrus's line in ME2 "If you were a Turian I'd be complementing your fringe or your hips", so these two features should be the characteristic features in females I suppose, therefore a curved down the fringe a bit to make it appear more like hair. Then I slightly widened and thickened the hips and thighs, a clearly distinctive female feature in most animals.

And finally, I added another make-up square to show her all prettied up. I think that really helps bring it all together and really make her look girly.

And that's it, this should be my last ME gender switch submission, though I am considering designing some clothes and armor for the females in order to help accentuate their womanhood, especially in those that need it like the Krogan.

The idea of dimorphism and people's ridiculous adherence to it confuse me... for turians specifically, i would say this is what i would call accurate, but to just scale-down or slim-up any race's male and call it a female seems just dumb to me. various species on earth have larger females, or bulkier ones. i'd just like to see a better variety in general...

that being said, i'll reiterate that with turians specifically, i think this would be pretty accurate.

i agree with you on that one. Since we dont exactly know what a female turian look like- it could be that the female turian race could be bigger and bulkier. Its a more 'rare' site to see and is more interesting to look at.

your female turian, krogan and salarian are really bad... do you think only race's with breasts are humans and asari you chanced the hight and weight and say this is female (by the way they both look like female... some parts missing... if you don't wanna draw that parts don't draw them naked...)

other than that good work...

[this is just a criticism, please don't take the wrong way...]

It's a bird. It's not going to have breasts. And Krogan are Reptilian. Unless they had mammal like tributes like the Kaleesh from Star Wars, then they won't have breasts. And seeing as how the Krogan are completely reptilian, at the most, they will be warm blooded.

Also, because of the radiation of Palaven, All male Genitalia would be internal as a plated penis isn't the most comfortable one.

Learn some science before you toss some bullshit around.

none of these speacies based on our planet, compearing them to animals from earth is simply idiotic.. krogan has 4 testicals.. can you say that for reptilians? of course you can't.. what saddens me you know nothing of science.. turian is not exacly a bird.. the speacies only resamble to a bird.. (well they look more like a raptor.) no birds in our planet have hands genious.. they have wings.. even if they cannot fly their bone structure would not allow them to hold anything on their wing/hand thingy.. you can't possibly say since birds from earth doesn't have genitalia turian also can't have any genitalia.. we are not talking about thesame speacies.. (also you do know we are talking about fiction here right.. anything is possible..)

you should check your facts before commenting like this.. i made that joke because while asari looking all human(with breast and all) turian and krogan females will look really strange.. i wouldn't really care if turian and krogan had breast and all.. but if you care to read the things i said before, you can see all i'm saying in this work of female turian, male and female is not distinctive enough..

[by the way did you know turian had teeth? can you guess why doesn't birds doesn't have teeth?]

Actually some birds did have teeth. They sadly were driven to extinction. Hell, some chickens are born with teeth due to mutation. They have the dna for having teeth, it's just been over written.

Birds did have arms once, back when they were Dinosaurs. Some birds still have claws on what was once their hands. You don't know anything about Evolution. If Birds in our world were suddenly the top predators, over time, they would loose their wings and grow hands, as hands are far more useful to an intelligent species then a pair of wings, as wings can't hold and use tools. That's what happened to Turians.

Hell, we could even grow wings if we were put in the right environment. Bats are mammals and they have wings.

sansuni In reply to Apricots-from-Nara [2012-01-21 22:09:43 +0000 UTC]

actually you are the one who don't know anything about evolution, you are making way too many assumptions.. do you really think top predators will always get inteligent and grow hands? t-rex didn't.. t-rex as a top predator was the least inteligent dinasour there is (according to scientists it was just a savage beast) and it cound't even use it's hands.. (you should read some more about that)

just becouse birds and dinasours share some dna it doesn't mean birs evolved from dinasours.. that's not a fact, it's just a theory.. we share most of our dna with rats but you can't say humans evolved from rats...

and last of all birds don't have teeth! some might look like as if they do but these are actually tooth-like notches on their mandibles.. and birds do not use these to chew food..

i'm too tired to explain you why we coundn't grow wings and/or evolve into something with wings.. please make some resarch..

shows how little you know...

ImmaculateReprobate In reply to sansuni [2012-07-08 17:36:01 +0000 UTC]

T-rex was actually more intelligent than most of the dinosaurs that were alive than it's prey. It wasn't a complete savage either. It was considered to be a scavenger/hunter and one of the few good parents of it's age.

I wasn't talking about t-rex you moron. i was talking about the Raptors, Like velociraptor and Trooedon. There is a reason large birds are called raptors. Because the are related to these dinosaurs. Trooedon was the most intelligent dinosaur ever to have been discovered.

We don't even share 80% of our dna with a rat you fucking retard. My god, how fucking stupid are you? How old are you? I study evolution. I know what I'm talking about.

And finally, i have a bonus disc that talks about the development of Turians. Guess what the man who created them said? THEY EVOLVED FROM FUCKING BIRDS.

yeah since you can't prove your teories you must use words like moron, retard and question my age.. how mature of you.. so i'm gonna speak your language here....

listen to me fagot, WE MIGHT NOT EVEN SHARE 80% OF OUR DNA WITH RATS, BUT NOR DOES VELOCIRAPTOR/TROOEDON AND BIRDS! YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT TOP PREDATORS, VELOCIRAPTOR AND/OR TROOEDON WERE NEVER TOP PREDATORS! T-REX WAS, SO I GAVE IT AS EXAMPLE BECAUSE ACCORDING TO YOUR THEORY TOP PREDATORS MUST EVOLVE INTO INTELIGENT BEINGS.. HOW STUPID ARE YOU? BIRDS MAY BE RELATED TO THE RAPTORS BUT THATS JUST A THEORY! IT'S NEVER EVER BEEN PROVEN! DO YOU KNOW WHAT A THEORY IS? I'M STARTING TO WONDER..

i give up, you are just an idiot who know nothing at all.. now go fuck yourself in peace.. don't bother answering.. since you are acting like a child, i'm not going to answer anymore...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Apricots-from-Nara In reply to sansuni [2012-01-21 23:57:14 +0000 UTC]

You see, that's the thing, T-rex would never have servived the extinction. Trooedon would have, however, Birds evolved some time in the Jurassic period from Archeoptrix. Which was the missing link. Once again, you fail at history and science. Go read a book.

You don't know anything. YOu really don't. Aliens would most likely be bipedal with two eyes if their world is like ours. If the gravity is high, they would have four legs to better suport them like the elcor, if they lived on a planet mostly covered in water, they would be like the Hanar or some other sea creature.

You also failed to notice how the creator of the Turians said they were birds.

You fail. I win. That is that. No one agrees with you.

These are aliens- not humans.

A female is not really based up breast and curves. The actual distinctive female feature is usually smaller and slimmer features.

Everything has its own unqiue feature.

Nah human females are pretty small. Not that much in height usually 5'9" to 5'3" but it's the weight difference. Average man is like..190 or so, woman is like..140.

Lots of times the large animal is also less attractive. Like most male birds are pretty. Human females much more attractive etc etc..

Lol..Big ugly Turian females..

GShepherd17 In reply to ImmaculateReprobate [2012-07-08 21:22:06 +0000 UTC]

Actually- that's sort of invalid.
All the females in my family almost out-weigh the man.
Actually the adverage for a male is 160 to 170. Highest is 200 pounds. A female that weighs 120 is actually bellow adverage.
I'm a female, and i'm 150 and 5'7 in height. I am alot stronger then other males as well. But as a majority, you cant really pinpoint down.

Its all different really- when it comes to humans. You cant really determine who's gonna be smaller.
Just saying everybody is to individual these days.

ImmaculateReprobate In reply to GShepherd17 [2012-07-08 22:10:35 +0000 UTC]

Actually the average weight is 191 pounds in the us..Maybe you mean healthy weight? But holy shit, a quick search provides 170 as average us female weight. 160 and 130 are probably closer to the ideal weight for each gender.

I probably find the 190 more plausable simply because most guys I know are around 180-210 with a healthy BMI. Could be because a lot of guys where I live are into MMA and football.

That's true..amongst my brothers I'm 6'2" 190, with a healhy BMI (not cut, but not fat xD). Whereas my younger brother is 5'4" and 235 lbs, with a fairly healthy bmi..then my even younger is 6 foot..160 pounds..but he also couldn't bench the bar. lol

I think it's very diverse..But I still think with humans, females are the fairer sex.

Now i may be just a little above adverage. But i'm one of the strongest in my hole weight class of males.

Nice, my girl is like that too, she does 30 kg dumbbell curls, which is a damn lot for a woman and some males.

Well... not really. Woman in germany are naturally large then men. Becuase of child birth and high climates- its more of the female that holds the size advantage.

But today... we're all so different. Humans are like dogs, there are many different breeds with alot of differences.
So many differences you cant really narrow it down.

Well, the original Bioware artwork didn't show any obvious male parts, so I saw no reason to do the same with the females, I figure they are mostly internal like with most animals and only come out when they're being used. Just because they are female doesn't mean they have to be sexy in the same way you think of human females, that's what Asari and Quarrians are for .

sansuni In reply to Asurael-Returns [2010-04-24 16:56:52 +0000 UTC]

hey i didn't say they should be sexy EDI will tell in game, female turians breast will not come out until needed...
(we should write our own storyline... )

lets say you used this idea on turians... i'm not they should look like this... why the hell all race's look thesame you draw every other female race like male there is no way to say they can't have any womenly parts... (krogan might not have them , i don't even wanna know that... "i hope there will be no female krogan romance option )

again i'm not saying they should be sexy, but is that would be so bad

Asurael-Returns In reply to sansuni [2010-04-25 04:24:24 +0000 UTC]

It just doesn't fit the approach I used. I tried to think with a scientific mind, seeing what goes on in our own natural world and building from that. Not "womanizing" existing male models. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's just not what I was doing. And I didn't think of breasts as sexual features, they're there for animals who give live birth and lactate, I just didn't think Turians would do that. And if you look at most animals, they're sexual organs are mostly internal, meaning that despite having them, they don't show, which is what I did with most ME aliens.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sansuni In reply to Asurael-Returns [2010-04-25 21:09:37 +0000 UTC]

the problem is that you took your idea from our world... it shouldn't look like animals... by the way is not about breasts... i'm not saying they should or they shouldn't have them... what i'm saying is that you give male and female thesame chest... it's ony natural for birds... even most male and female animal dont use same skeletal system... (from a scientist who know what he saying... ... most of the time...)

You don't seem to know much of Bioware's ideas with the turians. I hope you've gotten more knowledge of it since you wrote these comments, but let me politely tell you it was Bioware's concept to create the female turian that way.

The females would lack the horns, otherwise there are no great differeces in the genders, which explains greatly why the artist didn't do any more about it.

They were merely following the design and how Bioware had it thought out and designed.

There are nothing bad about it. Instead I'd say you might've contacted Bioware for their bad design

If you already know this then ..
(Just reconsider before you criticize in the future)

we DO NOT just talk about bone structure here... and you can't use animals for an alien model, because they use two legs not four... gravity is a bitch and male and female subjects takes a big impact from it... in humans different hormones what makes male and female not look all same...

Rose-As-Red In reply to sansuni [2010-05-27 21:06:58 +0000 UTC]

If I may, an alien is an animal, no? Just made up of a different chemical compound. Or perhaps, even something similar. And now that you mention hormones, who's to say that these aliens do not possess hormones of their own?

Also, gravity may be a bitch, but gravity is different on every planet.

The Turians are not earth based, though. Their whole cellular structure is based on differen acids and proteins. Therefore, the reason I use animals, and not all animals, because you should know that sexual dimorphism is not found in all animals.

And as I said, whose to say that Turians even have similar hormones? They may not have anything similar to humans.

male turian almost looks like human male... very similar... your female turian looks like male turian too... turians is not earth based and you keep saying that you take animals for it... go do some research... i'm keep saying that they have different hormones than us and to each other... you should research two legged animals like monkeys... anotomy is not alike in four or two legs...

Don't tell me to do research. I've studied anatomy for almost three years now, so I think I know a little bit about how the body and hormones function, thank you very much. As for two-legged animals, such as monkeys, the male and female structures are almost EXACTLY THE SAME. You don't seem to understand what I'm trying to say. What I'm saying is that they are aliens. You cannot directly associate human hormones and alien hormones. At all. I'm done trying to argue a scientific point to someone who cannot grasp the concept of having a species that is not sexually dimorphic.

I know this is a while late, but I was reading both of your points on this. The other posting party, clearly does not understand sentence structure and the shift button, how would they understand a species anatomy other than their own?
To quote another member of this argument, for a different picture,"This has been explained in the codex over and over, and is mentioned in a lot of dialogue. The turians are closer to birds." Now, unless your idea of anatomy is warped, I don't see breasts on birds. The other member, was saying that they should, because they're humanoid, but they forget about the heavy carapace over the Turian's chest. How would it be possible for offspring to even gain access to them? "Oh, but they could be over them!" Why would Turians even have fleshy parts to begin with, when they are not fleshy in the least. The other person in this conversation said they should have them, to meet their own alien-fetish needs.
