It's more complicated than you think. Phonetically, the 'r' sound in Japanese sounds like both the English 'r' and 'l' and is rolled slightly. So the translation of her name could be localized as either Kilala or Kirara in English speaking countries and both could be considered correct. Furthermore, Japanese writing is syllabic. Individual symbols stand for syllabic sounds. A, i, u, e, o, ka, ki, ku, ke, ko, ma, mi, mu, me, mo,Β ta, chi, tu, te, to, sa, shi, su, tse, so, ra, ri, ru, re, ro, and so on.
So the answer is you have, but you haven't. ...I only know this because of failed efforts of teaching myself the language from age 13 to 20, and two attempts at taking a Japanese language course in college that failed due to an inability on my part to match the right symbol to the right sound. Learning disabilities are annoying.
