Description
Strangely this is inspired by christmas cards that were on a local market and cut from paper. I wanted to integrate that into my own art. I'm still not sure how this came out except that I want to go back to Africa really bad as I grew up there and it is a big part of my life, but why this image? I guess so much in life depends on what life you are born into. It seems to be a little disturbing to some but I hope people can get something from it, think about their luck and remember...Related content

that is very strong piece.
Part of one painting I did had an african child soldier [from Lord's Resistance Army]. One of the lowest depths humanity can sink to.

this should mean plenty to anyone who is familiar with the current state of africa. it has child soldier written all over it.

I really like the message of that picture.
You made also a very good job with the water colors.
Some years ago I painted the same child-soldier too on a big wall and a friend of me made the background with symbols of inhumanity.
Hey, we both have almost the same idea

for some kids, innocence is in the air, for some is in their behavior, war makes kids to feel their innocense as barvarians from the ancient cultures, but for some its just melodies and softness...cool contrast

It's indeed a bit disturbing, but that's what makes great art, daring to express issues like this. The constrast (both content and way of showing) makes this piece realy stand out.

hmm interesting comparison.. maybe because of the bold imagery? maybe because of the profile associated with them? I definitely hadn't associated the two...

well, maybe my influence is prone to juxtaposition because of the counter culture and African and Haitian art Ive studied, but the bold imagery is definetly something that rings true.

hmm, it is always interesting to see what other people caj associate art with though, it goves it more meaning and aspects! I should look into Haitian art, I donlt think I know anything of it. Thanks again!
