some of you asked me if i could show some of my older worksok, here is one of them from mid 1999.
this is the A3 big picture which started my love to draw big detail pictures.
it was a homework i did for artclass. we should take our favorite picture and change it the way we would like it. i chose "Nighthawks" (1942) by Edward Hopper. i just love the atmo of that painting! just last winter they hat a ahow at a local art museum with most of his art and for the first time i sat there and could see this icon of art one-on-one ... i never thought that i would ever see this in my life.
so, back to the homework. we should change it in our own style and i chose comic. what else!
main inspiration for this was the film "Blade Runner" and "Back to the Future 2".
No, NOT "The Fifth Element"!!! i did this pic in mid 1999 and the 5th elemt came out more then a year later!!!
so this pic with its high skyscrapers and fyling cars like in the 5th element was way before its time! ha!
ofcousre i went to the movies to watch it when it came out and to see THAT what i always wanted to see in a film gave me the shivers. hehe
so here it is ... one of my main turning points

das schaut genial aus, ich finde die lauten wirkliche einzigartigen ideen klasse, ich könnt stundenland draufschaun, echt toll zu sehn wie du diesen stil imlaufe der jahre immer mehr verfeinert hast

ich wollts schon irgendwann viel frühere ,al posten, aber dann dachte ich, dass ohne niemand den alten schinken sehn möxhte. danke, dasse mich vom gegenteil überzeugt hast :-D

yes, in the usa! but back then in 1999/2000 we in europe had to wait more then a year untill a film got over the big lake and only untill it came out over here we got the info about it. so, i did this pic without knowing that the film had comeout in the usa.

muss ich da jetzt noch was sagen?O_O....es hat irgendwie eine ähnliche atmo wie das orginal...aber dadurch ; dass außen nicht die leere nacht ist sondern dieses bedrängende großstadt chaos wirkt es auch wieder ganz anders...hopper ist tollo ich würde gern mal mehr von ihm sehn in echt mein ich.

eigentlich muus niemand was sagen. es wundert mich schon so, dass überhaupt so viele diesen alten schinken mögen und faven O_o? so toll find ichs nicht mehr ...
aber ja, die original atmo der einsamkeit ist nicht mehr, aber dafür ne neue!
die einsamkeit in der großstadt! obwohl viel los ist, ist man trotzdem allein ... kenn ich zu gut

back then this was my very firts try to do a big comic picture on a big scale with lots of details.
so yes, it took me forever and i just had less then a week time for it. damn deadlines X-//

ich glaub damals hab ich mir damit schon ein paar wichtige gehirnzellen zerschossen und bestimmt auch die sicherung umd damit aufzuhörn .... and so it goes on
das in farbe? da ich zwei linke hände bei phtoshop habe, wirds wohl nie passieren.

ja, stimmt schon. da ist viel zu viel chaos auf der linken seite und ohne hin find ichs nicht mehr so toll. es war mein aller erstes großes comic bild. bis dato machte ich nur normale einfache fun comics.
deshalb sehn auch die beiden typen auch so scheiße aus ... kaum übung in menschen zeichnen damals
und ja, die hopper austellung war wunderschön. endlich mal nighthawks 1zu1 sehn
kann ja sogar sein, dass wir uns damals unbewusst übern weg gelaufen sind hehe
ich war auch bei der austellung von dem "Godfather of Underground Comics" Robert Crumb

wie gesagt ist ein sehr altes bild und damals hatte ich noch nie sowas großes, volles gezeichnet.
bis dato zeichnete ich nur einfache fun animal comics, deshalb sehn die "menschen" auch so scheiße aus.
ein jahr später fing ich an mich für real comics und mangas zu begeistern (und mangas warn damals noch immer gleich gestellt mit pornos und üben war dem entsprechend schwer).
