Description
The results of an experiment to assess the effects of close up lens and extension tubes on a macro lens' performance.Setup
Nikon D80, Nikor AF 200 micro lens f/4.0 and Nikon 6T close-up lens 62mm. Kenko 12, 20, & 36 mm extension tubes for Nikon mount.
ISO 400 Exposure 1/200 sec @ f/11 for all shots
1 single Vivatar 285 shot through a Wescott white umbrella, 18" from the flower
A series of photos was taken so the subject was at various reduction ratios starting with 1:4 then 1:2 and finally 1:1. The 6T close up lens was added (1:1+6T). The close-up lens removed and the extension tubes added starting with the 12mm, followed by the 20mm and finally the 36mm.
A combination of extension tubes was then tried: 12+20, 12+20+36, and finally, the Nikon 6T close-up lens added back to the stack.
With the addition of the extension tubes, the shots become more and more underexposed.
