Description
She looked on the yearling colt and sighed sadly. He was way too young to be put under this much stress, but all the other horses had been set free by raiders in the night. "You're my only hope, sweet boy," she whispered as she flung the reins over his head. He jerked his head back at the sudden motion and snorted, afraid of the new movement. The Arabians were the small, more delicate stock that were used in distant travel by the knights as they had much better endurance, while the bulkier Lipizzaner were used in defense. The colt was flaring his nostrils, his breath noisily rasping his nose as his fear rose. She tried to calm him, stroke his neck, and talk to him, but his frenzy had no end, even as they plummeted toward the closed rear gate. "EASY, WOAH BOY!" She shouted, but he was deaf in his panic. She felt his muscles tense under her and she squeezed her legs, pushed her body forward and leaned into the inevitable motion.
The colt sailed over the gate, but the impact of such a jump plus the weight on his back caused him to stumble when he landed. She jolted forward over his shoulders and tumbled into the dirt....
