Description THANK YOU FOR 1,000 VIEWS!! 10.31.05

When ~WannabeSpiderMan asked if I wanted to have a go at coloring in his gorgeous realistic drawing of Vash the Stampede , I nearly fainted with joy. So thank you, Dale, for letting me have this opportunity to flex my Photoshop muscles. I'm a newbie at certain things with Photoshop; I thought this would be a great learning experience as I've never colored in pencil art before.

Dale's own colored version [link] of his art really helped me a lot in my attempt at coloring this as I didn't have color references to things like the undersuit and metal arm.

I purposely made his hair and eyes that bright; I wanted him to have a hint of "anime/comic" feel. Just a hint. I chose to change the lips a bit; I had difficulty painting them and had to go a different route; I appreciate Dale allowing me artistic license in this regard. The duster simply refused to look aged and dusty for me like it did for Dale; it insisted on looking bright and shiny, so I'm presuming Vash has just had it dry cleaned. *sigh* I didn't intentionally make his face look older, but it ended up that way; I'm going with the thought that hey, he's over 100 years old, it's acceptable that his face shows a little bit of age, ne..? But I do hope I didn't mar his youthful attractiveness too much.

Since this was for practice and learning, all critiques and opinions are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks for the tip; I had never tried that before (always wondered what the 'multiply' selection did!). So I tried it... pretty neat!

That is so cool he let you colour it Im no expert but I like it

When you do this is it more of a tinting process?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

AthenaTT In reply to nefri [2005-04-16 18:19:04 +0000 UTC]

It was cool he let me color it! thanks for your encouragment! No, for me it's not a tinting process, I open it in Photoshop, make layers underneath the graphite layer and color on those layers very strongly.

Yes, it is the third time: Dale did a graphite drawing, then colored it. Then I did my own color version. Here are a few Photoshop Tutorials I've found very helpful, they may help you too; three of these were made by *brianne333 , ~ neondragon and *nykolai , all fellow deviants!

VERY NICE!

I've seen the two previous versions of "wannabespiderman" [link] and liked both of them. You'rew version in impressive too. What makes difference is that you have used more bright and saturatet colours which gives a realistici but anime-listic (I inventet a new terminology word for art.. woot! ) at the same time. I love it!

Have you ever tried to meet people in your area thru local art events? I put my work up at local coffee houses and signed up at art museums for events and I meet tons of people; might be a great way to meet some girls with your same interests. I also have 4 friends who got married to great local people after visiting eharmony .com and other viritual dating sites. Those are becoming very valid ways to get dates (locally or with people all over the US and the world!)

There aren't really any art events in this one-horse town, but there is one are gallery here. Unfortunately, I don't think my art has a place there. Most of the art in that psudo-museum consists of portraits and landscapes. It would be funny to see some comic art next to that stuff though. If there are other places in this town where I could showcase my are I haven't heard of them. It there was, then yeah, that sounds like a good way to meet women.

I don't think that I would try my hand at those web dating services. I have heard some bad things about those. I guess I may be willing to do something like that some time down the line, but not right now atleast. Maybe after I have heard a few more good things about them.

Great version of Spidey's Vash
Well, you did both a great job coloring (I'm kinda jealous of both of you ^^), but I have to say, on your version he looks more manlyer (or should I say, a little older and battle-scarred) than on Spidey's. That is, the way you colored his face -- it's always the face

Advanced critique? Nope, not really got any!

AthenaTT In reply to rotane [2005-04-15 23:56:07 +0000 UTC]

Awww thanks hon! I was worried I'd taken away some of the freshness that he has in Spideys version that I really enjoyed. But I felt obsessed with making his face look as real as possible. Which made it look kinda old. *grin* But I'm glad you approve!

the hair looks green..? even at full view..? that's weird... I colored it with practically 100% yellow.

ELK64 In reply to AthenaTT [2005-04-16 09:07:03 +0000 UTC]

did you use black to sink the hair? because even if there is only one very small little black with much of yellow, that moderates nevertheless with the green, to avoid that it is necessary to use ochre dark, or ground of his brรปlรฉe(of brown the quois, which vary between light and dark) then when there is no more only one atom (XD) of yellow of going little quietly with the black * I am practically about it knew it already lol XD *
