We have been hearing these claims since the reefer madness decades ago.
There is no scientific consensusΒ that has proven that.

There is that if you do drugs you get psychotic and that statistically people who smoke marijuana have higher rates of schizophrenia. Read "surviving schizophrenia"

Yes, I am familiar with the study as this piece cited www.theverge.com/2014/6/24/583β¦
but correlation of course is far different than causality ..
the premise previously states spoke of causality which is not what that particular study on schizophrenia found from Harvard which is often claimed.

Doctors find that if you use it you have higher rates of schizophrenia and its a fact. If you had actually read the book surviving schizophrenia you'd see that he says it's up for debate but what is not up for debate is that if you smoke it you have a higher risk of schizophrenia and if you are high on it you will act psychotic. I trust a doctor who's seen it more than a study. Please stop attacking me. Don't dismiss evidence you don't like. You know they have a higher chance of schizophrenia. What you should be saying is "well yes marijuana may cause that but there are other factors involved" which is what the doctor said. Don't just deny evidence that makes me so angry.

Well that study was conducted by doctors over a number of years looking at several things, so if one says I trust a doctor but not a study by doctors then the original point would seem one does not trust doctors then.
It is not denying evidence to not believe one doctor's point of view, when there are other doctors that studied it and did not come to that same study. It would seem it makes you angry if one chooses not to just accept what you accept which is not my problem.
Can that occur in some people, yes, yet that study shows it is not as 1:1 claim as your original claim makes it seem.

Agreed, it seems clear that prohibition does not work.. did not work with liquor, and is not working with marijuana.. I personally am for the legalization of marijuana and the decriminalization of all other drugs

Well even if we decriminalize meth and crack we still cant allow it to be openly sold around schools or in cities. Perhaps possession of it should earn you instead in a state-of-the-art rehab facility and not use them as a re-education camp for those who like weed.

AtheosEmanon In reply to ZanyOnePip [2015-12-20 19:27:45 +0000 UTC]
That is why i said decriminalize and not legalize...
Decriminalization takes off the prison aspect of it but does not make it legal to be sold in stores or anything.. so you would be sent to rehab rather than prison

When you give $100 to a cop for them to let you off easy, you're a criminal. When you give $1000000.00 to a politician to put said criminal in a private prison, you're a lobbyist.

This it's what we need! I mean, I just can't understand why marijuana isn't legal but alcohol and tobacco are! It was already been proved that marijuana causes less damages than tobacco and alcohol.

Personally I think they should legalize ALL drugs, then they could tax them. It would not only cut down on drug-related crimes, it would hurt the drug lords BIG TIME.

AtheosEmanon In reply to Hawkheart29 [2012-05-12 21:47:46 +0000 UTC]
I am for legalizing marijuana and decriminalizing all other drugs. But I do not think that crack, cocaine, and heroin should be sold legally which is what legalization would allow it to do. Decriminalization means if you are caught with it you go to drug treatment, not prison which has a higher success rate /lower recidivism rate than prison
π: 0 β©: 1
Hawkheart29 In reply to AtheosEmanon [2012-05-12 21:50:55 +0000 UTC]
Well, legelization worked for liquor more or less. Who knows, it might work for drugs too . That's all I'm saying.
π: 0 β©: 1
AtheosEmanon In reply to Hawkheart29 [2012-05-12 21:55:08 +0000 UTC]
It may work for marijuana, yet do you truly want crack, heroin to be legal? I mean that is a far stretch to say you want us to be able to legally sell crack cocaine.. but everyone has their views of course.
