If there ever was a "Nintendo Vs. Capcom" game then there's one thing i want for them to do above all else: MATCH UPS!

Part of why it was so fun to see Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 (+Ultimate) 's trailer were how they were usually presented in a 1vs1 fashion in some of them. Fun Matchups like Ryu Vs. Wolverine, Dante Vs. Deadpool, Morrigan Vs. Dr. Strange, Strider Hiryu Vs. Spider-Man.

With that in mind i made a carefully crafted roster where i tried to match characters up.

Some worked... some didnt... but it was still a fun experiment to try and get 1 character per franchise.

-Mario (Super Mario) Vs. Ryu (Street Fighter).

They both are the faces of the company. They also share Fireball, Spinning attacks and rising uppercuts.

-Link (Legend of Zelda) Vs. Huntress (Monster Hunter).

Both use a variety of weapons best suited for the task at hand. The Breath of the Wild design simply helps sell better the "Meeting in the wild" scenario.

-Fox (Star Fox) Vs. Strider Hiryu (Strider).

Science fiction Special ops that are also well known for being very technical glass-canons in their respective crossover games (Smash Bros. Melee and Marvel Vs Capcom)

-Pikachu Vs. Amaterasu.

Capcom doesnt really have animal buddies to match Pokemon. So Control over elements could look like a legendary pokemon for a Pokemon trainer

-Donkey Kong (Donkey Kong Country) Vs. Haggar (Final Fight).

They both are super strong, Arm-spinning grapplers that throw barrels at their enemies. Reliving the Arcade Donkey Kong on Metro City sounds fun.

-Marth (Fire Emblem) Vs. Arisen (Dragon's Dogma).

Their games both share one thing in common: The goal of Killing the evil Dragon. The medieval aesthetic also helps.

-Captain Falcon Vs. Captain Commando.

Their similarities lie on being awesome close-quarter combatants and being very quote-able. Falcon Punch!!!. Captain Kick!!! So cool...

-Villager Vs. Frank West.

A bit of a stretch, they are both known for crafting stuff. One to make a cool Village while the other fights zombies. It's probably a lot more acceptable if you've seen the Villager Axe Memes at least.

-Wario (Wario Land/Ware) Vs. Zack (Zack & Wiki).

I didn't have Wario originally because he is hard to match up. Thus he gets to face up against another pirate! Surely the both couldn't be looking for the same treasure, right?

-Pit (Kid Icarus) Vs. Morrigan (Darkstalkers).

The heavenly guardian faces up against the Succubus of Darkness. A clitche match up, but it works surprisingly well what with both having projectiles and flight

-Samus (Metroid) Vs. Saki Omokane (Quiz Nanairo Dreams).

The heavy armored bounty hunter faces up against the Earth Defense Force Soldier.

-Ness (Earthbound) Vs. Sissel (Ghost Trick).

A whacky match with the Suburbs kid with psychic powers against the Poltergeist detective. Can you hear the Earthbound music?

-Yoshi (Yoshi) Vs. Firebrand (Gargoyle's Quest).

Protagonists of spin off series, yoshi is so light hearted compared to the more gothic Firebrand. This is a fun one to me.

-Takamaru (Mysterious Murasame Castle) Vs. Yukimura Sanada (Sengoku Basara).

Feudal Japan match up. Nintendo's Samurai vs. Capcom's dual-wielding spears warrior.

-Min Min (ARMS) Vs. Spencer (Bionic Commando).

Extendable arm meets extendable arms. This distance brawlers are the perfect match.

-Little Mac (Punch-Out!!) Vs. Batsu (Rival Schools).
The power of Youth finally meets up. Let their fists do the talking!

-Olimar (Pikmin) Vs. Arthur (Ghosts n' Goblins).

The idea of these midget men throwing stuff at each other is hilarious enough to deserve to be matched.

-Isaac (Golden Sun) Vs. Ryu (Breath of Fire).

The RPG protagonists that wield Swords and other special powers. Whereas Isaac has the djinn and the power of Psynergy, Ryu can turn into a dragon!

-Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles) Vs. Dante (Devil May Cry).

These two are just so powerful that even if you don't particularly agree as a matchup, canonically there isnt many people who could stand to them.
-Ring Fit Trainer (Earthbound) Vs. Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney).
Non-conventional fighters! Prepare for the Exercise instructor and the Lawyer to square off by.... doing exercise and presenting evidence!

-Kirby (Kirby) Vs. Mega Man (Mega Man).

They can copy abilities so it makes sense. I think it's a little too hard to match someone like Kirby though

-Mage (Miitopia) Vs. Tessa (Red Earth)

Surprisingly enough, Nintendo doesn't have a well-known Magic user. Miitopia comes to the rescue with the Mage-Class to match!

-Saki Amamiya (Sin & Punishment) Vs. Hayato (Star Gladiator).

These Sci-fi young men use advanced swords to battle! They are also pretty obscure for both companies

-Captain Rainbow (Captain Rainbow) Vs. Viewtiful Joe (Viewtiful Joe).
Obscure references-man Vs a Pop Culture fan. Both dressed up as super heroes? Perfect Match up right there.

-Inkling (Splatoon) Vs. Momotaro (Pirate Ship Higemaru).

I don't think you can match Inkling with anyone but SEGA's Jet set radio to be honest. So instead i bring from Capcom's old-school games in Momotaro, who uses barrels to hit pirates into the water.... Inklings have met their match!

-Mii Swordfighter (Super Smash Bros.) Vs. Kaijin no Soki (Onimusha).

Yes, this is a stretch. Nintendo doesn't have as many Fantasy-based franchises as you'd expect. This will do based on the theme of swords though

-Henry Fleming (Codename ) Vs. Edward Falcon (Power Stone).

Steampunk men come forth! Henry's Steampunk guns and tools present an interesting middle point between Edward's default form as a Boxer who can power up into an Iron Man suit.

-Sami (Advance Wars) Vs. Jill Valentine (Resident Evil).
Realistic Guns!? A Nintendo Vs Capcom presents the perfect opportunity to bring that kind of representation. It's also stablished that at one point Jill's moveset brought forth Zombies to help, which means Sami can call on Advance wars units to match!

-Mr. Game & Watch (Game & Watch) Vs. Asura (Asura's Wrath).

Asura is a God Killer. Matching him against someone is a little hard even outside of Nintendo characters. Maybe a being from another dimension that turns into an octopus can fight this multi-limbed angry dude?

-Ice Climbers (Ice Climber) Vs. SonSon (SonSon).

I admit that this was pulled partly to fill this square roster... but hey, the art styles match perfectly and come with that Nintendo flavor of "Bringing back characters nobody expects"

-Akira Howard (Astral Chain) Vs. Jin Saotome (Cyberbots).

These two have something in common: The ability to bring forth their partners as an extention of themselves! While Jin used Blodia in the Marvel Vs. Capcom series, Akira uses a Legion

-Toy-Con Robot (Nintendo LABO) Vs. PTX-40A (Lost Planet).
GIANT ROBOTS!!! One of the coolest things to come out of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom. If the rival company brings PTX back, then i can see Nintendo opting to bring the Robot Kit as a nice piece of history.
