Reminds me of in Greater Than The Sum when a shapeshifting spaceborne lifeform attempted to mimic the Enterprise. Of course, that was the TNG rather than TOS Enterprise and the shapeshifter thought the ship itself was alive, not the little carbon-based bipeds living inside it and wanted to make it feel comfortable and it wasn't a very convincing mimic.

I have never read that book (then again I do not read most trek novels lol )... A friend of mine inquired as to how I would interpret a demonic USS Enterprise. This is what I came up with
