um, i dont think markers are hard to shade with, but that's just me, i dont think markers are hard to use at all, that's why i use them most xD
coloured pencils hate me D:<
(are you from canada? my canadian friend calls coloured pencils pencil crayons too xDDD)

I used to try and draw with markers supplied by the my school when I was little...I always had problems with colouring on top of what was already done and I made ugly blotches >.> I hope that wasn't as hard to understand as it was to describe it xD
And I sucked with pencil crayons until last year in art class when I bought expensive-ish Prismacolor ones...
(I am from Canada xD I was not aware that they had another name...xP)

yeah... cheaper markers tend to go all blotchy-ugly a lot, also depends on the paper too.
I had some coloured pencils by prisma once, but i didnt like them, i think i was just using them wrong, but urg, i dont like the white spots that show up xD

Maybe I should buy a couple more expensive ones and try them out =o
And by white spots do you mean the paper underneath?
I found that if you shade the darkest parts first and then go over EVERYTHING pretty hard with a lighter shade of the same colour/white it blends them together quite smoothly. I think it really depends on the pressure and colours you use for making good pictures ^^
