Description
DL TO FULL VIEW the thing is retardedly hugeMY UNNECESSARILY LONG PRISMACOLOUR MARKER TUTORIAL with really bad spelling
lots of ppl have been asking me how I colour, I hope this can help even tho its really hard to understand and im really bad at explaining things and i dont even know what im doing half the time
original can be found:
total drawing time from sketch to finished scanned copy took me somewhere between 17-25 hours
SUM FAQs:
what medium do you use?
Prismacolor markers [link] I own a few copics, but I prefer prismacolors. Their nibs are harder, and so it's easier to make strong contrasts and bright, saturated blocks of colour. Don't get me wrong, I think copics' soft, brushy look is beautiful, both markers have their own unique style, I just personally prefer Prismacolors c:
where do you buy them?
I bought my first 40-something boxset at Micheals Craft Store back in 8th grade when they had some uber sale going on, since then I buy them on Dickblick.com cuz they're much cheaper xD
have you tried the generic DickBlick version of prismacolor markers?
I have a couple, but i havn't had the need to use them yet D: from what i can tell they're pretty much the same tho...
where do u buy ur white gel pen?
Micheals. I live there. it sucks up all my money. it's bad.
what paper do you use?
- I like to use my Copic brand marker paper best, it's thick and smooth, and so allows for much more color absorbance is that a word?so it's easier to get smooth blending, but regular printer paper works fine too, since it's thinner it gets saturated quicker, but will result in different, but just as nice results : D
some pictures i've done on normal 8.5x11 printer paper: [link] [link] [link]
UHM, theres probably more but i cant remember. IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS, DON'T HESITATE TO ASK 8D

I can't tell you how much I appreciate watching someone who is a master of Prismacolors. I have quite a few myself, (but I can't blend them for crap). D: But it was nice to actually know and have most of the colors mentioned, so I understood it better. (I think.) Instead of with Copics, which is like EO-WHAT?
Thank you very much for creating this, though. It will be my new BIBLE.

i started out with the 46 pack er whatever (42? 48? something in the 40's) and then after that i just started buying individual markers of colours that i didnt have but wanted, and my collection just started growing ^^ it's been a growing process of six years xD i still have quite a few from my original set of 46 too, they last a long time <3

I love seeing how others work with Prismas. I use them myself, although I don't color as much as I should... The marker tutorials out there are predominantly copics, so it's nice to see one with Prismas. I really like your idea about the paper and stamps, I hadn't thought of that. Now I'll have to go to Michael's and pick of some stamps. lol Thank you for creating this tutorial! I've learned a couple of things, and am hoping to start experimenting soon. :>

woah so helpful
I find that prismas are a bit harder to blend and also I get confused by the naming/number system they have (not knowing which colors blend well together, etc). You definitely sold me on some of those colors though (violet mist, want) and the stamping is brilliant
Most of the techniques in here would work okay with copics too, right?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Atomic-Clover In reply to Aquamarina1 [2011-02-04 03:34:59 +0000 UTC]
oh yeah, the inks of both copics and prismacolors are very very similar, their only difference are the nibs and price xD so blending works the same way c:
haha and i dont pay attention to the number system xD i just see what colours are close enough that i can probably get a decent blend with; ive blended yellows into blues, pinks into greys, browns into greens, they're are so many combination, i find it fun xD

Love how you color stuff and stuff......
Question. Do you have a colorless blender?
if so, what's it for?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Atomic-Clover In reply to EchoTreekeeper [2011-02-04 03:38:40 +0000 UTC]
no i dont have a colorless blender, i used to, but i didnt know what it was for either xD
now i know what they're for, but by layering lighter colours over darker colours it does the same job. colourless blenders just add more ink to colour already on the paper in order to smooth it or blend it out. coloured markers of lighter colours work just as well, only give a little extra colour boost, and i like it that way better xD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
EchoTreekeeper In reply to Atomic-Clover [2011-02-04 19:31:44 +0000 UTC]
Ok so there's no need for a colorless blender just use lighter colors.
One more thing, What was your first and favorite color marker?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Atomic-Clover In reply to EchoTreekeeper [2011-02-04 21:26:18 +0000 UTC]
haha oh that's a tough one xD i never had a single 'first marker' cuz i started off with a set of 42, but for favourite marker... it depends on what you mean lol x3 the markers i use the most are Brick Beige, Sand, and Jasmine. (omg jasmine is so pretty) but my favourite COLOUR for marker has gotta be Rhodamine xD iTS SUCH AN OBNOXIOUSLY BRIGHT PINK i still have yet to use it in a picture, but i will some day xD i just love staring at it, lmfao <3

EchoTreekeeper In reply to Atomic-Clover [2011-02-04 22:13:48 +0000 UTC]
XD I really don't like pink all that much but Rhodamine sure is obnoxiously bright like you said!
For a first time user like me (who doesn't have any yet :I ) What color do you recommend?
(my mom only wants me to get one to start.)
Ps. Doing your color contest!

LOL WHAT, XD thats like, taking a football team, and saying only one can player is allowed on the field at a time, that would be silly because they can't do anything by themselves xD I don't have a single marker i can recommend because they work as a team, if i only had one marker it wouldnt be able to do anything ^^
hm, but if i had to choose, i would get Brick Beige. then at least i could practice colouring skin c:
