Scott "Slim" Summers was the first and oldest born in Anchorage, Alaska to Katherine and Christopher Summers. The latest in a long line of soldiers, Scott and his younger brother Alex grew up around the ridged military environment of Elmendorf Air Force Base. His father, the highly-regarded Major Summers, was a decorated fighter pilot whose skills put him on the shortlist to test some of the most advanced and secret aircraft of the day. His mother, Katherine, was an equally decorated army doctor who was also part of advanced research in the military community. Growing up in this environment, Scott was immersed in the disciplined environment of the military and developed an early fascination with planes. His father often nurtured his curiosity while telling him stories about the long tradition the Summers family had as soldiers. He told his son about how the Summers family had a history of soldiers going back to the American Revolution. This instilled in him an early desire to be as decorated and honored as those that came before him.

Scott was on the fast track to becoming such a soldier. He and Alex attended a special school for children of military officials. Even at a young age, he made a name for himself as being disciplined and respectful toward his superiors. He often wore a uniform to school and when others teased him, he would stand his ground. This caused some early tension between him and his brother, who was more of a headstrong fighter than he was a disciplined soldier. Yet this tension didn’t stem from Scott’s ambition or that of his brother. They both seemed intent on matching the standards set by their family.

However, this ambition was abruptly sidetracked by a terrible tragedy that is surrounded by unusual circumstances. The details are somewhat sketchy, but when Scott was ten, his parents scheduled an impromptu leave of absence from the base. Their reasons for doing so aren’t clear, but it is believed that his parents knew something that was potentially ground-breaking. Whatever it was, the secrets were lost.

While on their way to New York City to visit a trusted old family friend in Christopher's vintage private plane, a mysterious alien vessel, which would later be revealed to be a scout ship of the Shi'ar Empire, suddenly materialized and attacked the Summers' plane, causing it to crash. In the incident, the attack had also damaged 2 of the 3 available parachutes, and Katherine, knowing they all wouldn't make it out of the plane, made a fateful decision. Securing Scott in the remaining parachute and affixing a broken seatbelt around him while he was holding Alex, Katherine made Scott promise he would always protect his little brother before pushing the boys out of the plummeting plane, seconds before it exploded, seemingly killing the parents, who were actually teleported to the ship right before the plane's destruction to serve as the slaves of the tyrannical Shi'ar Prince D'Ken Neramani.

As the plane exploded, a piece of debris shot from the explosion, ripping a hole in the parachute, and the Summers boys were sent hurtling to the ground. Because of all the physical and mental trauma, he went through during this short amount of time, Scott's mutant powers first manifested, his eyes shooting out destructive, concussion blasts. Using his newly-found powers, Scott used his optic blasts to slow down the descent of their fall but not enough as the two boys hit the ground hard and both suffered serious injuries, with Scott gaining a severe head injury that would later prevent him from controlling his optic blasts.

After recovering from their injuries, the traumatized young boys were shipped to the State Home for Foundlings, an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska funded by the Essex Corporation. Christopher Summers's former superiors pulled strings to ensure they were kept in a special group home for the children of dead soldiers. Here, they could still get some decent schooling and their chances of being adopted into a good home would be better. However, such chances were quickly stifled due to the lasting impacts of the plane crash.

Both Scott and Alex underwent dramatic changes during their time at the orphanage. Scott became more closed off and emotionally reserved. While he privately mourned his loss, he publicly hid his feelings beneath a thick emotional shell that few could get around. This turned off most potential parents. What turned them off, even more, was his protective behavior toward Alex. Unlike Scott, Alex vented more of his emotions. Most often, they came out in the form of aggression. It often forced Scott to shelter his brother, making it difficult for either one of them to get adopted.

While Scott hasn't utilized his mutant abilities since the incident, when he was twelve, he started to lose control of his powers. This started out with headaches that quickly escalated to seizure-like symptoms. It didn't take long for Scott to sporadically shoot out optic blasts in the orphanage, blowing holes in the walls and furniture. His brother Alex, who was only four years younger than him, would then manifest his mutant powers and develop similar symptoms, with him having the ability to absorb ambient radiation and shoot it out of his arms and chest. The development of their powers not only scared off prospective foster parents, but it also left them isolated from the other children at the orphanage. It wasn't long before Scott and Alex were routinely picked on. It led to confrontations that often resulted in their powers flaring up.

After repeated abuse and a few failed foster families, things eventually came to a head when an unfortunate flare in Scott’s powers caused so much damage to the orphanage that a number of officials wanted him and Alex transferred to another facility. Not liking this prospect one bit, Scott and Alex struck out on their own and for a time lived on the streets. It was a harsh world, but Scott's disciplined nature helped him survive and protect his brother. They were eventually drawn to a local gang of fellow orphans led by a mutant criminal named Jack Winters, also known as the Jack O'Diamonds, who sought to use the Summers brothers' mutant abilities in his crimes.

With Winters' gang, Scott got his first taste of leadership. In this, he excelled. By age 14, he was leading the gang on numerous operations for Jack O'Diamonds in exchange for food and resources. His powers quickly went from an obstacle to a resource. Both he and Alex were held in high regard by the other orphans as they protected them from Jack's abuse and also assisted them in missions. While Alex embraced this renegade lifestyle, Scott remained focused on greater ambitions. He expressed a strong desire to rebuild a life away from the street gang life. This put him at odds with his brother and Jack O'Diamonds.

This wedge only widened after a horrific incident when Jack O'Diamonds sent the Summers brothers on a simple armored truck robbery. In it, the driver of the truck tried to attack Alex and Scott responded by blasting him with his optic blasts. This resulted in the driver being killed. It struck Scott on a profound level, so much so that he resisted using his powers, no matter how Winters urged him to use them. In suppressing his optic blasts, he made them more unmanageable. By age 15, he was fully blinded and had to cover his eyes at all times. This not only hindered his ability to survive, but it also hindered his ability to protect Alex.

Eventually, when Scott was 16, he, Alex, and the rest of the gang were sent by Jack Winters to break into an Alchemax lab in order to steal isotopes that'll help him increase his powers. However, they were would be eventually discovered by Professor Charles Xavier, who teamed up with FBI agent Fred Duncan to find the Summers brothers. With the Professor's help, they were able to be rescued from Jack O'Diamonds' clutches as the isotopes proved to be unstable and caused him to explode.

Now free from Winters' tyranny, Scott was given a chance by the Professor to join his new school for mutants. It was a chance to get off the streets and into a better life. While Xavier offered the position to both Scott and Alex, only Scott accepted. This solidified the wedge between Scott and Alex, separating the brothers and sending them on different paths. While Alex remained with the gang, Scott was among the first wave of students at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

There, he would later embrace his role with the X-Men, a team of young mutants who trained to use their powers in Professor Xavier's dream for human/mutant equality. Adopting the codename of Cyclops, he worked hard in the classroom and trained in the Danger Room to manage his powers. Professor Xavier also provided him with glasses and a visor with lenses made of ruby-quartz to help him better control his powers. He learned under former marine John Proudstar, who's also known as Thunderbird, and was part of the X-Men's initial mission as masked vigilantes during the years leading up to the Mutant Control and Registration Act's passing and the formation of the Brotherhood. During this time, he was still emotionally reserved. However, he did develop a close friendship with fellow X-Men Jean Grey, which quickly deepened into romance as time went on. He eventually became the field leader of X-Men and is one of Professor X's most trusted and loyal students. Despite clashes with teammates such as Wolverine and his rocky relationship with his brother Alex, he earned respect from each of his peers and is steadfast in his dedication to the X-Men.

Alright, it took a while, but here's Cyclops. My initial design for Uncanny Cyclops was supposed to be based on his iconic look from the late sixties and early seventies, but thinking about it, I wanted to do something more satisfyingly "Cyclops". So, I decided to use a more modern design, specifically the one during the 90s. I also gave him the trench coat he had in Wolverine and The X-Men. His visor was made to look like a militarized helmeted look, with chin straps, and his costume was designed to look like a bulletproof vest.

Being born into a family of soldiers, Scott has a grim and serious personality as he was taught discipline and respect at a young age. He's an exceptional team leader, even more so in crisis scenarios. Despite his attitude, he can be lighthearted at times (though these moments are few and far between). He's also plagued both physically and emotionally by a lack of control. In a purely physical sense, he is at the mercy of his powers, which he cannot turn off. If he is unable to control these powers, the people around him get hurt. Having already lost so many of his loved ones, he is very cautious about protecting what family he has left. This leaves him vulnerable to punishing himself for his failures and being overprotective at times.

Even though he struggles with control, his sense of duty and discipline hold him together personality-wise. This along with the military influences in his early life make him a perfect fit for the types of duties the X-Men carry out. Working as a unit and going on missions is just like being a soldier to him and the cause he's fighting for is a cause he truly believes in.

I hope you guys like it.
