Description
When I moved to Alberta back in 1984 they had a lot of cartoons that I never saw before, Astro Boy was one of them and man, this one anime is what started my love affair with the Japanese art style.I could write pages about how awesome Osamu Tezuka is BUT this is a gift trade that is well overdue to this guy here:
I just want to mention that I had done the rough version of this for the robot jam but I just ran out of time to finish it unitl now.
Enjoy!
Oh yeah, before I forget...
Background inspired by the title card painting for "Space Madness" not sure if it was Bill Wray or Jim Smith (or someone else?) Anyone know for sure?

Now that's a true cartoon/anime hero.
This world needs more cartoon/anime heroes. Imagine if he along with the other cartoon/anime heroes were real.
But anyway, very awesome work.

You forgot the 'L' there buddy.
but it reminds me of how my sister and I would bounce on the sofa whenever we saw Hercules drag Deadalus accross that rocky ridge.

Hooray for Shirtless Boy!
Yes, Shirtless Boy! Defender of the weak! Champion in the war against Cotton! Sanded off his robo-nipples for Freedom!
BUY WAR BONDS!
Sigh, I wish I had machine guns in my butt (though it could result in dire consequences after spicy foods enjoyed on bumpy rides).

Oh man, you really gotta go back and watch the original anime (or even the one in the 80s, which is my favourite).
The movie takes some of the charm away.

I would guess so. It's a bit hard to get here in Norway and I don't have any friends that are all into good old anime.

Cartoon Network here in the States has run the original B&W series in the late-night Adult Swim block, as well as "Gigantor." Retro cool. I also recall, in the past decade, CN running the color "Astro Boy" series from the '80s, '90s or early '00s. (Not sure.) Also cool. I also liked the movie, though it was obvious they went out of their way to create a quasi-love interest with Cora. (Still, she WAS a cutie. And I liked the purple hair streak.
)
Nice work, Tiki.

It's amazing how long-lasting the series is, a testament to Osamu Tezuka's work

I'm reading his "Black Jack" anthologies, the new ones. Some stories are powerful because even when surgeon Black Jack "cures" someone, there still might not be a happy ending. In one story, a disfigured woman gets plastic facial surgery and is so proud, she goes out, runs around and calls on people to see how beautiful she is. But she lives RIGHT on the border of what's implied to be an Iron Curtain country, and the guards assume that she's running because she's trying to defect. So they shoot her dead.
It's a VERY mature series for things like that.
