Description
Captain Star wasn't one of my favourite cartoons on Teletoon back in the mid-to-late 90s... at first. But over time it became one of my all time favourites. Mostly for it's clever subtlety but also for it's unique nature.Unfortunately, many others just didn't tune in and was cancelled by Teletoon (though, I hear tell that it continued on in the UK).
At any rate, Captain Star was the story of the greatest captain the universe had ever seen (and his crew)... unwittingly put to pasture by Mission Control and sent to a nameless planet at the ragged edge of the universe to wait for orders that will never come and wile away his time. Of course, trouble has a habit of finding him and his crew, so he ends up saving the universe several times and destroys at least one shag carpet.
The cartoon dealt primarily with getting older and how things change as you age, mostly how others treat you. But it also did a good job at poking fun at rampant consumerism and science fiction parody.
Here we have the captain waiting for his orders, which will never come.
Worth checking out, and many episodes are viewable on YouTube.

I remember this cartoon. I watched it when I was a kid. This British-Canadian cartoon used to be on ITV and Viacom's/MTV'S Nickelodeon UK and Ireland.
It's a good cartoon programme.

This is my favorite show, I spent, no kidding, many years just trying to find it for download (because teletoon discontinued it and you couldn't buy it online). I finally found it and it was miraculous. Still haven't seen it for sale yet though, although if you're into it check out the book, it was released last year sometime.

I just started watching this today, and I loved it within the first 2 minutes. But I'm also 21 years old, so I get the jokes more than a little kid would, hence why it probably never caught on.

Yeah it was very dry when it came out in the 90s but that's part of what made it work.
Not really for kids, but I love it.
I was probably 20/21 when I first saw it too.

I did this for an art jam I host every year called "Obscuri-JAM", in fact, Obscuri-JAM 2011 is coming up starting in April.
If you can think of something obscure that needs some fanart by all means come jam with us

You know, I've seen a lot of old cartoons from my past but none have hit me harder than Captain Star. I just watched an old episode, The Atomic Alarm Clock. It's sort of a depressing show, isn't it?
I wasn't a fan of it back then, but it's certainly interesting to me now. Great picture. His hair reminds me of Doug, now that I think of it...

I loved the black humour in Captain Star, it makes me smile every time.
Yeah, the designs were very stylistic and had that sort of indie comic look that was popular for a while.
