Description Captain Star wasn't one of my favourite cartoons on Teletoon back in the mid-to-late 90s... at first. But over time it became one of my all time favourites. Mostly for it's clever subtlety but also for it's unique nature.

Unfortunately, many others just didn't tune in and was cancelled by Teletoon (though, I hear tell that it continued on in the UK).

At any rate, Captain Star was the story of the greatest captain the universe had ever seen (and his crew)... unwittingly put to pasture by Mission Control and sent to a nameless planet at the ragged edge of the universe to wait for orders that will never come and wile away his time. Of course, trouble has a habit of finding him and his crew, so he ends up saving the universe several times and destroys at least one shag carpet.

The cartoon dealt primarily with getting older and how things change as you age, mostly how others treat you. But it also did a good job at poking fun at rampant consumerism and science fiction parody.

Here we have the captain waiting for his orders, which will never come.

Worth checking out, and many episodes are viewable on YouTube.

It was certainly one of my favourites, and I count myself extremely fortunate that I managed to tape all 13 episodes before it went off the air.

So far as I know, the series did not continue in production in England, though perhaps it continued to be aired.

According to the Wikipedia entry, there was a commercial Videotape of the first three episodes, but no DVD has ever been released. Is this a forgotten classic, or what!

A forgotten classic indeed!

I would kill to get this on DVD but sadly YouTube is my only means of filling the urge to watch when it comes.

It was on for a number of years here in Canada and I heavily regret not recording it.

I downloaded episodes from YouTube the other night. I noticed there was a missing episode - "Rocket to Nowhere." However, navigation on YouTube is chancey. If I search for that particular episode it might turn up. In the meantime, I don't know why I copied them. My videotape is better. But tapes do wear out or tangle, so having a back-up may not be a bad idea.

Yeah, YouTube is such a mixed bag, I once found a nice "channel" featuring the majority of the series (taken down now).

Again, I miss that show, I wish there was a way to get a new copy...

I once had the videotape tansferred to DVD for somone, but it cost them more than twenty bucks, wasn't even as good as the lousy videotape, and cut off before the last two episodes.

The thing to do would be to run my VCR into my computer, and transer it to some DVD format myself. But I don't have the accessories or software.

Ugh, that sucks...

I've thought about hooking my VCR up to my computer, it's a lot of hassle though.

Oh...my...God....It's beautiful! I loved this show so much (even named my cats Sputnik and Jim after it) and nobody else seems to have heard of it, so it's nice to find somebody who not only has, but draws awesome fanart! Instant favorite

I really loved this show too and I'm happy to hear from other fans!

It's a pity it was so short lived

You, sir, are my hero.

I was a real fan of this cartoon myself when I was younger, and it's quite unusual to find such an amazing piece of art on the internet.

You are quite welcome!

I've noticed a distinct lack of fan art in the Captain Star arena, a pity too it is one of my favourite series.

Jesus hell man this is too freaky, I was just thinking about this show yesterday and remembering the greatness that is was. Thank you so much for contributing to this amazing show.

Yeah I was amazed what things that show could teach you at times all the while still being one hell of an interesting tale of an old captain waiting for his orders.

Hats off to you big time here man and thank you for wonderful memories this brought, wheelbarrow and all.

This is what I love about picking obscure stuff, especially if I'm passionate about it, I get to either introduce new people to something I like or remind people of something they enjoyed.

Very satisfying as an artist

Its a win-win situation lad and good for you being that in depth with you and your artwork than just making another famous toon in a bikini, lol.

You know it lad, you know it.

I used to watch this cartoon all the time. My favourite episode was the Convention episode. Captain Star at a con all about him and they don't think he's the real captain. Brilliant.

Oh I loved that one, he always had that "look" when people got him mixed up.

Not many cartoons pull off "slightly annoyed" very well.
