Description A gift for thanks for the sub last year mate!

Very different from the initial sketch I posted... I've lost count of the number of revisions to this, I hope it is ok.

I dunno, I kind of like that there's room to tell her story, who knows maybe she was doing some side hero-ing on the sly as well

Well, if the BOOM! comic series is anything to go by, we know that she had a mad chemist for a arch-enemy and that she briefly dated a criminal mastermind who is still obsessed with her. Not much else beyond that (a shame...).

I guess, I haven't seen anything beyond the film...

gemlord-art [2010-12-02 06:02:39 +0000 UTC]

Things I like about this pic: Her hair is very cool, I like the way its textured. Her legs and rear are nicely shaped, and I do love me some long, sexy legs. The shadows and glare on her body and hair is well done, too.

Things I feel need improvement: The left arm is noticeably longer than the right arm (or the perspective on the right arm doesn't translate the bend towards the camera properly). The slope of her back up to her left shoulder is uncomfortably shaped, as though her left arm was originally drawn to be mostly hidden behind her body (with the way the torso is twisted), but then you changed and decided to make the arm visible without turning the shoulder back to fit her pose. Also, it's an odd choice that you did this soft shading all over her body, but her face is cel-shaded. And although I hate critiquing hands (since I hate trying to draw them) her right hand seems to be missing a thumb, or else it's awkwardly tucked under her palm.

Thanks very much for the feedback, this is very useful. We are on the same wavelength in terms of strengths weaknesses.

First about the pose of the arm, I realize now that I should have added shadow to make the elbow appear bent (as it should be, as I constructed it), I made an incorrect judgment call on the edge of the glove as well this magnifies the problem significantly.

As for the pose, including the shoulder and hand placement/arrangement they are all based on this publicity photo of Barbara Eden ( [link] ) obviously a great deal was lost in translation during sketching and I am aware that my construction is spotty at best anyway. I like working with real life poses, however when it came to inking the resulting sketch there must be a better way to define the form of her shoulder than what I ultimately chose (again, my inking leaves much to be desired.)

For shading I had actually tried to go for consistency at first, I had cel shaded the whole body but that didn't look quite right so I switched to soft shading with some results I'm quite happy with (especially the hair, best hair I've done to date I think). I had soft shaded the face several different ways but I was unhappy with each result, I reasoned that there was a strong light source to get the effect on the rest of the body and opted for a harder shadow on the skin. I feel this worked well for the nose but not the hair, which stands out significantly.

All good stuff to consider, that's for sure!

Thank you for your outstanding feedback.

Nice work Mr.tiki! Would you recommend the Udraw tablet for a starting tablet? Cuz I want one... :U

Thank you sir!

I can't recommend a Udraw tablet as I haven't used one. I use the good ol' Wacom Intuos III

Ah looks like Wii only I'm afraid.

You know you can get little tablets eh? I believe the smallest Wacom Bamboo is something like $130 USD, still not super-cheap but affordable.

The thing to remember with the tablet though is that it only makes some things easier (like painting) while other things (like inking) still take a long time (at least for me they do!)

It took me about 3 months of solid playing around with my tablet when I first got it in 2006. I think this was my first pic to use the Tablet effectively (since it is as old as it is and I haven't deleted it haha).

Yep, though I wonder what the sensitivity is, it might not be too much different from using the mouse if it can't sense pressure or tilt.

Yeah, this was a gift for a deviant who renewed my subscription in 2009... I'm slow but I get there in the end I guess haha.

I dunno, I think in Elastigirl's case less would be more...

Haha, they do have that look to them that say "Don't forget the Blu-Ray edition comes out in Spring 2011", not that Helen minds if you watch the DVD, as long as you have fun and don't put your glass on the coffee table without a coaster (she just cleaned that and she could kick your ass from another room y'know!)

Looks good. Lols 14-bis was lucky to get you that sub so fast to get this. The piccy has a retro like quality to it. Sorry you had to work so hard at revising it, sometimes pics just dont seem to come as easilly as they should.. but I like the end result.

AtomicTiki In reply to InnocentTazlet [2010-11-23 05:44:05 +0000 UTC]

Hehe

I'm actually really, really pleased with how this turned out. I just wanted it to be so perfect for so long, I was getting frustrated that I just couldn't hack it and yesterday I just picked up the pen and started drawing after getting a little inspiration from a Barbara Eden stock image I've had on my HDD for simply ages! Finally getting this done was passing a significant milestone for me and finally breaking an artistic block I've had for a long time (though Kitty might have truly broken that).

I do like the way I did her face, it's almost exactly as how I sketched it which says I'm getting better at inking, there's just something nice about it even though I forgot her blush.

Anyway, thank you for your kind words, I should do something for you one of these days. I'm just not sure what character and situation you might like to see
