A friend of mine has an actual steroscopic camera. (I think that is what its called.) Its a very neat effect. But he does have to send the film off to a particular developer, of course. And I imagine those cameras are hard to find now.
Its a very cool effect! Keep at it!

I've been looking at them, they can still be had. There is actuall an Asian company that makes relatively inexpensive ones. However, when I can afford to I am going to go for a rig that uses two linked digital cameras.

Well, I certainly look forward to seeing your own sterograms. Does such a rig exist or do you have to McGuyver it yourself?

Such a rig exists for a certain specific model of Sony camera. I'd like more light sensitivity than that model happens to have (I do a lot of photography in nightclubs) so I might have to work something up. Olympus has some interesting models with remote controls...

interesting time-sequential stereoscopy.. funny I knew the wife of a friend
that suffered from lack of stereo vision - only discovered when she went
for a flight-test eye exam. Curiously, she still had depth perception, as the
doctors found and documented.. she autonomously and subconsciously
translated her head left and right, and her brain integrated the two time
sequenced images and she 'faked' the stereopsis without knowing. Amazing things..
what brain can do and how it works- especially when compensating for errors.
hmm I still have yet to see any images in those 3d-computer-holograms..
great work and interesting twist on an old concept - I would have never
thought to use aniimated/interlaced images for 3d. I'm curious - what did
you use as you virtual interocular distance? Same as a human head? 2.6"?
regards -h

Yes, roughly 2½". I don't have the approprate attachment for my tripod to be precise about. In this case I was simply flying by the seat of my pants using a table-top to steady the camera.
I dearly want to rig up a two-camera arrangement that will allow me to work with moving subjects. For now, though I'll have to content myself with fooling around with applying the technique to public-domain vintage stereographs.

I see the intention, creating actual depth and dimension by taking the two pictures offset. I really like the effect with the old photographs, because not only does it add a sort of 3D feel but it also flashes like an old shaky movie. The background shaking so much in this image is a little distracting though. Maybe if you could make it so the background appeared to be still and the things in the foreground moved it would. I don't know, it's definitely a cool idea and creates a great effect, even if it does look like an earthquake

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. I'm still experimenting with this.
With the vintage stereographs I don't have any control over where the focal point is going to be and pretty much have to centre around whatever the original photographer centred on. I'll try your suggestion the next time I take my own.

wow, really cool effect -- love how the potted plant is still stationary while everything else is moving *nod nod*
