Don't fully understand what's going on here. But it ain't because you want to commission Atryl. You could ask nicely, for a "special price". You could go to your "other artists" or buy your dvd that entertains you. But public dissing of an artist prices is low and cheap.
Artist charge what they feel their art is worth, and, as public acceptance allows (ie Atryl is actually GETTING commissions from people at the moment).
If he feels that the price he asks for is worth his time, that is because he knows what his time is worth.
When did quantity ever trump quality in art? Oh, I remember. Hotels.
Again, a rephrase of your issue would have come across better. Rather than just saying "you are too expensive, I can get heaps of stuff for that price", you should mention you can't/won't pay more, and ask if he can do a special. Which he may or may not do, it's HIS decision to make HIS prices for HIS art.

And at the end of the day, Atryl is also a recognized name in the scene. And you do pay a premium for the artist's signature alone.

These are not easy to make you know? It takes time, effort, sweat, communication with the commissioner, looking at weird and sometimes difficult references, etc to create a single one of these pictures.  If you can’t afford decent prices, don’t be mean about it. Save up, and wait for another opportunity to commission the artist.

 uh huh. doesn't take much effort on my end. really. it's drawing and using a program to color it, looking at a referance and talking to people. all with TYPING AND USING A COMPUTER. not much effort.

 still, i could get much more with much less. i don't see the point in paying that much just for an online picture i can't keep in real life. if it was at a con, sure. not for an online commission

Not much effort!
Like the comic -
Boss of advertising company asks artist to make and advert.
Artist comes back with drawing. Boss says "That took you only 30 minutes! I pay you way too much if you can do that in 30 minutes!"
Artist counters "I spent 4 years in college learning how to do that in 30 minutes".

maybe why you wanted to commission Atryl in the first place? I can tell you right now, there is A LOT of effort, based on YEARS of efforts, into making art of Atryl's calibre.

Please note, I'm not dissing your art. But there is a difference. I'm just saying, the effort shows.
In the end don't diss artists prices. Ask, or walk away. DA isn't a rug stall in New Deli, lame barter techniques are uncalled for.

then they are underpriceing themselves. 60 is average. 40 for streams is cheep
