Description
does some stellar work on my original character Janet Planet! In a far flung future, after many rises and falls of civilization, humans have split into three distinct sub-species: The intelligent Lectors, the beautiful but simple-minded Idio, and the gruesome and treacherous Trogs. The Lectors formed the Star Centurions to protect the 100 sectors of colonized space. Janet Planet, an Idio, is the most famous Star Centurion and her adventures are legendary!
I've wanted to move Janet away from her MMO origins for some time and and Wassy was a great choice to bring this model sheet to fruition. I'm going to come back and touch this one up with some text but I wanted to get it up first. The funny characters bullets will be a work in process.
As a collector, I'm warming to the idea of developing Janet's mythology a little. Depending on Wassy's availability to do conceptual type work, there might be some of these for Lectors and Trogs in the future.

This is a great character design, the first pose does make her look a little spaced out (no pun intended) The retro design works well with the pink, purple and white combo. That gun is killer too. If I had any talent I would do a fan art of her xD
Props to the artist and the character creator

The artwork is very nice.
Reminds me a bit of a 70's character named Interplanet Janet, although they don't look much alike.

Yeah, I didn't remember Interplanet Janet from Schoolhouse Rock when I came up with the name but it has been mentioned before and I did since find the cartoon on You Tube. It didn't look familiar but I watched all that Schoolhouse Rock stuff as a kid so I'm not sure how I missed that one.

Ahhh, that's indeed an interesting triple-faction progression of humanity... and classic retro sci fi in her blaster design.

I've not told the story before but about 4-5 years ago I was at a barbecue in the summer and there was this couple there who were about the two most visually stunning people I'd ever seen and their two children - a boy and a girl only about a year apart - were also about the two loveliest fair-haired kids one could imagine. While chatting with the adults and getting the sinking feeling that they were fairly empty headed, the boy ran up to the unattended barbecue and grabbed the warmed metal spatula and hit himself fairly hard in the head with it. While the parents attended to the crying boy, the little girl picked up the spatula and did the exact same thing.
Now, I know that beautiful people are no stupider than anyone else...but it got me thinking about the ones who are and who are having these simple-minded beautiful kids. And then I was thinking about all the smart people and their kids and the ugly folks and their kids, H.G. Wells, and Oliver Curry and that was really where all that came from - kind of a melange of real world experience, sci-fi fiction, and actual evolutionary theory.
The ray gun is, of course, all .

Huh... well that is rather an disheartening story...

Well, neither of the kids were permanently injured...it just spurred the idea of beautiful but simple-minded people and that reminded me a lot of Wells' Eloi. I'm sure they'll have happy and fulfilling lives.
Sorry, didn't mean to bum you out.

Nice drawings, love the character, very expressive. Has a "Vanessa Lake" influence, am I right? XD
Nice

Attache In reply to mbpinups [2010-10-14 15:52:07 +0000 UTC]
No Vanessa Lake influence...unless the artist happened to know of her and threw something in there. Either way, the character and most of her look was well established years before I knew of Vanessa. She always had red hair and always had multiple retro hairstyles.
Since encountering Vanessa, I have thought of commissioning a Vanessa Lake as Janet Planet piece...but it will have to wait. Assuming that she wouldn't mind, of course.

I thought it was cool and fairly unique too...and then I googled it.
At least there doesn't seem to be any major comic characters by that name.

Thanks, man! I specifically requested the knock-kneed pose as I think it has a great tradition in pin-up and Janet is way more of a pin-up character than a traditional comic book hero. I definitely wanted to get that element accross in the model sheet.
I gave a few reference for the gun but that is purely her design and it is completely awesome. I couldn't be more happy with it.

With a few tweaks, this model sheet will save me a lot of time putting together references - especially for game characters since I always want to change this or that from the game model.
The goal here was definitely to move Janet away from the CoH version a little. Wassy did a great job.

Yeah totally!
Thats where the model sheets come in handy. I could have used these for these six characters before I ran the contest but it's all good. I still wanna get em done. How much does she charge for these by the way?

Attache In reply to ThorsAssassin [2010-06-24 04:18:20 +0000 UTC]
I got this one for $55.00 but it was a special offer going on at the time so it was discounted. was the one who had turned me onto getting it done. I'd come across Wassy's gallery before but missed the model sheet example that she had. I knew she could do great art but I think she really knocked this one out of the park. She has a great style for Janet.

I wanted to mix different retro periods but I'm glad the 1950's are coming accross particularly strong. Thanks!
is great!
