Well your exploration into a new working style has already paid off friend, this and your other works are eye candy, I'm not sure if you make 3d models and then incorporate them into a scene then paint but whatever the case the end result is superb, look forward to you future creations

Retro, Thanks for the comments.
On some of my pieces, specifically these sci-fi future-scape scenes, I do 3D model the majority of the content, and then do a combination of digital paint-over and custom cell-style renders and then composite everything together. The exceptions are the characters. I draw them by hand (digitally with Wacom).
I refer to these pieces as my "hero art" And they take forever. I haven't done one of these in a long while. For now my busy schedule has me doing more sketch and paint illustrations on my tablet, but I would like to get back to these.

Well your work is certainly eye catching and reflects the effort you put into it to be sure. The only advice I can give you is make some time for yourself and create something you love, life is short, keep being aw sum, we are all watching what you do next

Good advice! These days I am trying to to make more time for personal art. The Microsoft Surface tablet has really helped me get some flexibility and work from any place for short amounts of time. Though it's not powerful enough to do these large detailed scenes, at least I'm drawing again. Again thanks for the thoughtful comments! Cheers!

The amount of detail is awesome, especially the litter and trash, it gives it a feel that the city is actually lived in as opposed to the miraculously spotless metropolis.
Great pose and angle too =] The bike looks like itβs just waiting to take off, and the rider is refreshingly normal in his stance. Haha Iβm so used to seeing original characters and anime that seeing a regular guy simply being cool in a drawing is unique.

Nice comments!
I love the manga and anime look, but I'm not a fan of the big eyes. I was experimenting here and I wanted to see if the anime look worked on characters rendered with realistic proportions. I'd say it works just fine

This is killer man. It's far more interesting (and bigger?) than reality.

If they ever want to create a second Akira movie, then they should use this style (or you should create it )
Very nice

Thanx bro! Everything is 3D except the rider. He is drawn by hand. Also the entire scene is inked by hand. But buildings and bike are 3D but with custom cell shader / post processing. I am way behind on posting new works. (had to relocate for a new job... big move) but now I am back working on new material. I love your work and your style! You are a very gifted graphic designer. I will look forward to new material from you.
Thanx for the fav!

Thanks for the comments Dawn!
I'm glad you dig the design of the bike, though I confess it's technically far simpler then the absolutely KILLER chopper you're modeling! I can't wait to see that thing finished. I love the concept of a magnetic hubless drive on a bike. Typically this is thought of as a more 'futuristic' design. The fact that you're applying it to a retro-styled chopper is just fantastic. Extremely creative! Post updates when you have some more progress.
Until then,
Cheers!

Thanks for the compliment! I am delighted you like the art! I've got a bunch of new stuff in the works, but it's being slowed down by a deluge of commissioned projects. With luck I'll be back on track by December and have some new stuff based on this sci-fi / manga theme.

(you should draft up some more futuristic rides. your work in that genre is most excellent.)

Trust me I can identify with the whole, "day job consumes all" thing. It's an unfortunate standard within my industry as well... None the less, I shall look forward to any new work you post, but will keep a keen eye out for new works from you!
Keep it up my friend!

who is the baddest monkey? I am!
Actually I'm a retard. I just now figured out how to get a decent uncompressed image uploaded.
Enjoy!
To all those who suffered horribly for the last month at the hands of the previously highly compressed image. I'll go and drink a little bit of Clorox. Just for you.
love,
me

The jpeg compression on this image blows. Deviant art seemed to ultra-compress the master file upon upload. I need to figure out a way around this. The original image is sharp and sexy. This one is not. I am sad.
