Description
This is it, fellas. This is the result of a two year intense program in 3D animation. The final project, the ultimate test, and our chance to show or future employees what we've got.Those last two years have been the toughest for me. Never have I worked this hard in my life. I had to deal with my teacher's expectations that got higher and higher every project we did.
This one was the very last. The one we heard about since our first day, and dreamed about. When the moment finally came, it wasn't what we expected.
Because of various circumstances, instead of having the original five weeks time to do this, we ended up with SEVENTEEN DAYS! You won't ever understand how much pressure this is unless you studied in the 3D world yourself. We had seventeen days to do everything from scratch.
About 30 sketches (after which the teacher would chose which type or character we had to do);
30 more sketches to chose the exact design we had to replicate;
Model Sheet;
Prop sheets;
Modeling the whole thing from scratch;
Create the UVs;
Texture it (texture maps, specular maps, bump maps, normal maps, shader design);
Rig it;
Light it;
Pose it;
Correct the inevitable problems;
Render it;
Compositing...
We had a list of character types. Among them were space marines, bikers, cowboys, pirates, and others. I endend up with the samurai, which wasn't my first choice (the cowboy was) but I know my teachers knew I wanted the cowboy and didn't give it to me on purpose. They're just so lovely like that.
Anyways, the samurai was and interesting one to work with. We still could chose if we wanted to to a female or male character. I wanted to do a badass female.
I'm pretty happy with the result I might say. There's A LOT of work into this. Hopefully, this project will be what will get me a job.
This is the full sized render so you can really zoom in to see the real detail in the textures.
Seriously guys, I would like to hear from you what you think. Leave a comment please!
Software used: Autodesk Maya 2015, Autodesk Mudbox 2015, Sculptris, Photoshop CS6

She would look good in a game. Or maybe an animation.

I think so too. I could try animtaing her one day. But it's extremely difficult to create a rig that works well for animation. Posing is one thing, making it move without anything interpenetrating is another.
