Description This is an acrylic painting I have done about a year ago as part of my course. We were supposed to illustrate in our way the myth of Narcissus who drowned because he loved his reflection so much.
After giving it a little thought, I concluded that comparing ourselves to a reflection, because we love or hate what we see, is futile, because a reflection is virutally nothing. So many people aspire to an unexisting image of themselves, to be what they want to be, or what they want to believe they are.
It was with this idea in mind that I had the idea or painting this semi-abstract female looking adoringly at her own relfection. The two are so identical one can barely tell the difference between the real and the fake, but in the end, it's nothing but an abstract dream.

The character's design was inspired by the evil virus Daemon from the show called ReBoot. The girl seemed to be loving herslef so much I couldn't help but think of her when I thought of Narcissus. She was to ''bring peace and perfection to the Net'', yet in the end, her function was to destroy every existing thing.

(Daemon and ReBoot do not belong to me, but are owned by Mainframe Ent. No copyright infrightment was intended and I make no profit out of this.)

I feel the piece, despite you writing a meaning to it in the description, really stood well enough on its own as a traditional medium work without the added digital reflection trick. Nicely done. Abstract and ReBoot are something most people wouldn't consider could cross.

I actually did two paintings. The one you can see here, and another one (which I did not like as much) which looked less abstract, more real. It was meant to represent the character in its materiality, while the one you can see here, represented the abstraction of the reflection. The two were originally disposed the same way you can see here, facing one another. But I chose to keep only the abstract one, first of all because I prefered the way it turned out, and because it held just as much sense, if not more, than the original dyptic.
Maybe I could upload the other piece. I'd love to hear what you have to say about it. You say that it didn't need the digital reflection. I added it because I was afraid it would be too hard to understand that it was meant to be a relfection. I'll try looking at it on its own again. Maybe it IS better for it to stand on its own.
Anyways, thank you for your comment, and thank you for giving your opinion. It helps me getting better and better.

I'd love to see the original, but I very much understand what you mean by this more abstract version because it "held as much sense." Sometimes, less is more with visuals, and it's great to leave the viewer seeking into the image for what they want to take from it.

Again, very well executed.

Then, I'll upload the original too, as soon as I find my camera. I'm interested in what you'd think about it. And thanks again for the compliment!
