Asuka made me want to kill myself every time she opened her mouth in NGE. Her only decent moment was in End of Evangelion. I disapprove of her attitude AND her character role. She's static (except in EoE), repetitive, unrealistic, and contributes virtually nothing in comparison to the other main characters. She's an insult to NGE's story, which (aside from her) is brilliant. She's there to satisfy the sexy-and-promiscuous-girl trope. Period.
So... Asuka. Haruhi didn't piss me off as much.

Personally i think she's there to show us how shinji could have been. She's sick and damaged, but I think her point is to have a psychological comparison to shinji. Sow e can see how trauma effects people in varying ways.
