Description
Not even this would convince the bees not to attack Seabreeze. :I
So I saw the episode today, and I personally thought this part was hilarious. Flutter produces the bee suit from thin air and starts trying to persuade the angry bees by acting like their ever loving queen and shakin' it, or just doing a bee dance, only to later shout at them and force them back into their hive. My, oh my, I would love to have Fluttershy around if I was in a situation like this. Let me tell you a little something about myself: I have a fear of bees, and I think it's stronger in me than in anyone else. If I was outside and I spotted just one bee that's extremely distant from me, I'd dash inside my house until it's gone because I always sense a high chance of a threat whenever they are around. You could even expect a little squeal from me. Yup, I'm that much of a wussy.
I got sort of careless with the background since I was rushing, and I apologize if some of you might not appreciate it. Not to mention that I didn't convert to a style different from my other pony drawings. I need a thicker outlining on the objects of focus so I could define them more, and I'm referring to if I'm drawing something straight from a cartoon. I just sort of wanted to get this done today just in accordance to the new episode. I really need to learn I have a long time before its completely diminished from one's memory. That depends on how memorable something might be though.
Edit: Wow, first drawing on EQD? Noice.

Fluttershy, as adorable as this is, I'm going to have to politely ask you not to sting me... I mean, if that's okay with you.

The line "I will destroy you and steal your fiancΓ©e, booty booty booty rockin' everywhere!" ~ friendship is witchcraft
comes to mind here. Aside from that the actual pice is seemingly flawless discounting the slightly sub par background you already addressed.Β

I bet Fluttershy has herself a bunch of costumes hiding in her personal pocket universe that made up in my head canon to explain where that costume came from.. But who knew Fluttershy was closet cosplyer on top of her multi personility issues...

A phobia is by definition an *irrational* fear.Β Fear of bees is not necessarily irrational, as some people are extremely sensitive to bee venom and a sting could be fatal.Β Also an attack by bees en masse would mean a lot of venom and and would be very dangerous.Β Perhaps you are thinking of those things.
Bee stings also hurt.Β A **LOT**.Β Even more so than wasp stings (which are supposed to be so much more dangerous).
Now, fear of bats or spiders *is* a phobia, because it is *irrational*.

Thanks for the input. That's a little something I learned today.
My fear of bees isn't completely based on the venom they harbor, but it's more of their appearances and how they might appear, as you mentioned. Just the thought of them in flying in entire swarms, individually, or even in pieces gives me a really unsettling feeling.Β
I mean, why I don't like seeing them is that you don't really have no knowledge on whether you are provoking them just by walking near them or not. They could be pretty unpredictable. Whacking their nest with a stick is one thing, but I'd sometimes remain in the position I'm in, such as when I'm sitting, and they'd stick to me like a magnet, even if I have a think layer of bug spray. I think I remember one time a was sitting in the sun and one bee land on me and prepared to sting me. I'd feel I'm at too great of a risk to stay in a certain area, so I'd go somewhere where I think they are less abundant.Β
During the summer, by house is practically a bee farm, so you're probably wondering 'how have you not gotten over your fear of bees yet?' Well, I've been living by this life standard, saying 'any intimidating insect with the colors of bright yellow and black with a stinger of venom, or any insect alike, shall be avoided at all costs as they serve a potential threat.' If anything, I should just try to forget that and just sit outside like they don't exist.Β
I finally grasped the fact that honeybees are probably one of the only useful species of bee and aren't completely intimidating. They use my house as a honey factory, so I'm still wondering to myself, why can't you finally treat them like your nature-borne friends?!

Wow.Β Maybe you are a little phobic.Β But as I said, bees *can* be dangerous, and no one wants to be stung.
We're coming up on the time of year when carpenter bee drones appear and fight each other for females (I grew up calling them "bumblebees" but they're not really bumblebees).Β Carpenter bees are large solitary bees which means there are no swarms and no hives.Β And since the drones are easily recognizable (with a yellow spot on their heads) they can be caught in the hand, either out of the air or off of flowers.Β The females, on the other hand, have stingers.Β You don't want to fool with them, even though they're not aggressive.
Ironically, some people are afraid of the stingless drones because they fly all over the place and sometimes follow people around, trying to look intimidating.Β Unfortunately after moving three years ago to a new house we no longer have these carpenter bee drones.Β The old wooden house we used to live in was full of them.Β The females drill into wood to make their nests and lay their eggs, and over the years they can weaken a wooden structure considerably.Β They also produce the finest sawdust you've probably ever seen.
When I was a little boy in the early 60s I have names to various "individuals" around our house (assigned completely arbitrarily, of course).Β "White headed" bees were named Stanley (from a cartoon eagle on the old original "Alvin Show") and Herman and Catnip (Paramount/Harvey cartoon characters; the cartoon character was spelled "Katnip" but I always used a "c" for the bee).Β The name for "black headed" bees was Mabel.
My mother is sensitive to bee venom and about ten years ago a hive of wild honeybees built a HUGE hive in the flu in her room.Β They were getting in her windows and stuff and she could hear them buzzing all the time.Β The land lady finally had them sprayed.Β Mama was mighty lucky to live that close to that many bees and not get stung, I think.
Anyway, thanks for sharing bee stories.
